Injured Comatose Man Awakens

On a positive scientific note, a real life Lazerus has risen to a better Warsaw, Poland. An injured man emerged from a 19-year coma and thinks "the world is prettier now." He injured his head in 1988 while attaching two train carriages. Gertruda Grzebska, 63, for years fed her husband Jan carefully with a spoon and moved his body to prevent bed sores. For 19 years he basically did not move or speak. "Now he spends his days sitting in a wheelchair and last weekend we took him out for a walk in his wheelchair," his wife said. "He was so amazed to see the colorful streets, the goods," she said. "He says the world is prettier now" than it was 19 years ago, when Poland was still under communist rule... He remembered shelves filled with mustard and vinegar only" under communism. (Poland shed communism in 1989 and has developed a market economy. )

On a less than positive scientific note, Robert Cooksey, federal microbiologist/father-in-law of the man quarantined with drug-resistant T.B., will be investigated to determine his role in the case. Mr. Speaker said his doctors and the CDC all knew he had resistant TB before he flew to Europe for his wedding. Robert Cooksey, who attended his daughter's wedding, provided "fatherly advice" about traveling. Speaker claims that the Fulton County, Ga., health authorities said that he was not a danger to anyone. Officials preferred that he didn't fly, but no one ordered him not to fly. However, despite warnings not to board another flight home, he flew back anyway. He tried to sneak home by way of Canada. He was federally quarantined May 25, after passing through the Canadian border. Speaker is now hospitalized for what could be a two-month period. (As a lawyer, one would hope Speaker knew better than to take such a risk. His expert father in law needed to give scientific advise, not fatherly advice!)

It's good to hear about such love and dedication today. It seems like more and more the odds would be a spouse would seek a divorce in such a situation and send the life-time mate to a nursing home, state or otherwise.

Yes, we have seen such action in the Terry S. case where a spouse gives up.

Now, to search for such love is in deed a noble quest. But the odds of achieving such a holy grail not likely. However, where better to look than Poland?

Ian, you and Mystery may be the master at dating, but marriage is better explained by a simple story.

When our lawn mower broke and wouldn't run, my wife kept hinting to me that I should get it fixed. But, I always had something else to do first, like wash the jeep, fish, watch the Dodgers or of course go boarding.

Finally she thought she made her point.
When I came home Wednesday, I found her seated in the tall grass, snipping away with a pair of sewing scissors. I watched her
for a bit and then went into the house. When I came out again, I handed her a toothbrush and said, "When you finish cutting
the grass, you might as well sweep the sidewalk."
(The doctors say I will walk again, but I will always have a limp.MARRIAGE IS A RELATIONSHIP IN WHICH ONE PERSON IS ALWAYS RIGHT, AND THE OTHER IS A HUSBAND.')

Surfer dude, you need my services. While I can't take away your limp, I can remove 50% of your assets with a timely dissolution of marriage. You better either read "Divorce Busting" by Michelle Weiner Davis or prepare for more large hospital bills.

Surfer Dude reminds me of a poem:

You make me want my phone to ring.
You make me want to sing.

You make me want to dance.
You make me want to get in your...
wallet.

Shell, you remind single men all over the world why they should think before they rush into marriage.

This reminds me of the movie "Goodbye Lenin" - pretty good film...I have to admire his wife for her dedication and good care she gave him. How often do we see that? Pretty refreshing!

With regard to the Tubercolis-Andy case, there is much more to this story than we know . . . maybe someday the whole truth will be told. Me thinks this is very fishy . . .

If nothing else comes of it, the Speaker incident has raised the awareness of T.B. and has heightened a concern about our airline and border security.

Incredible poor judgment on Speaker's part. Larry King to discuss tonight.

Did he wake up to a better world? A pretty world is not necessarily a better world.
