Subhash Chander, a suburban Chicago man, allegedly killed his pregnant daughter (22-year-old Monika Rani), her husband (36-year-old Rajesh Kumar) and their three year old child (Vansh) because the son-in-law failed to ask permission for the marriage. After the killings, Chandler allegedly set his apartment on fire using gasoline as a primer. Subhash Chander, 57, of Oak Forest, Illinois, is being held without bond on three counts of first-degree murder, one count of intentional homicide of an unborn child (his daughter was 5 months pregnant) and one count of aggravated arson.
So why did Subhash go off the deep end? Chander is a native of India who according to prosecutors, disliked his son-in-law because he belonged to a lower caste. His son in law's failure to get parental consent for the marriage was the last straw under the theory of the prosecution.
Cook County First Assistant State's Attorney Robert Milan will apparently be the lead prosecutor. But the case might not be so easy. Chander's sister, Kamla Devi, told WBBM-AM that her brother is innocent. She claims that relatives approved of the marriage and that the caste system was not an issue. "There was no family problem. There was nothing going on. Absolutely nothing," Devi said.
What was the cause of death? The Cook County medical examiner's office opines that the victims died of carbon-monoxide poisoning and smoke inhalation. What did Chander say? He allegedly told police the gasoline spilled during "a pushing match" with his son-in-law. Chander also allegedly told police that he ignited the gas with a lighter because he was angry.
Why did the victims not flee? Prosecutors speculate that the victims may have been asleep. All other residents of the apartment building were able to escape. The fire gutted the 36-unit Le Claire Station Apartments.
Simple Arsonist, Murderer or Innocent? Regardless, if the allegations are true, definitely someone in need of Anger Management Training.
Any suspect is to be considered innocent unless other wise proved guilty by a court of law!

Everyone dislikes some in law. But normally one does not torch an apartment or a relative over it!
In a world of reincarnation, perhaps it is just an attempt to improve his son in laws caste so that in the next life the marriage will be blessed.
Too many die in the name of religion, superstition and insanity.

Maybe it was a little cold and he was just trying to warm things up a bit.

Talk about your meddling inlaws! This heated exchange was predictable.
All in the family part III.
Thanksgiving at Shuhash's house must have been a blast.
Certain US hotel groups import these virulently racist people and their 3rd world standard of living for a tax break. The American employees immediately lose their benefits and pay raises and if they don't like it they lose their jobs. Then the property turns into a flea infested flop house for transients, welfare cases, and drug dealers.
MGR, are you familiar with Le Claire Station Apartments? I noticed it was unrated on the internet site I visited. Are you familiar with this particular complex or its management?
I had not heard of these problems, could you elaborate? Thanks. Legal Pub
I was refering to the motels they own, like the run down Super 8's and Days Inns. They're working their way up to Baymonts and Amerihosts now. Those, too, will soon be filthy dumps. Don't be suprised these Indians were in the hospitality business.
MGR, is this an example of importing the work force? Kind of like outsourcing but bringing them here to work?

This is an example of a weeny roast on a cold Chicago night!
Subash has plead not guilty. He is innocent, you all, until proven otherwise.
Subhash gonna beat da rap or he gonna be beaten da meat...
Innocent as da day is long!
Still say the devil made him do it...
