Two Off Duty Police Were Shot and Killed In Atlanta But Fight Against Crime Must Go On

Two off duty police in Atlanta were shot and killed. They were working security at an apartment complex near Atlanta. They were responding to a call about a suspicious person when someone fired at them shortly before 1 a.m. According to Chief Terrell Bolton of the DeKalb County Police Department, one officer died at the scene and the other at a local hospital. The prime suspects are two men who ran from the scene after the shooting at the Glenwood Gardens apartments. The officers names have not been released; however, in the mean time the fight against crime must proceed commencing with the apprehension of their killers.

Does the law share responsibility for domestic abuse?

In the 1400's a law was set forth in England that a man was allowed to beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thumb. Hence we have "the rule of thumb."

My vote is yes.

Did sports need laws to promote equal rights? (Title IX)

Many years ago in Scotland , a new game was invented for men. "Gentlemen Only...Ladies Forbidden"...and thus the word GOLF entered into the English language.

Again my vote is yes.

Historically, have men and women needed incentive to marry?

In Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month after a wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead (beer) he could drink. Because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month, which we know today as the honeymoon.

Again, yes. The divorce rate goes up after the beerfest (honeymoon) is over.

Legal Pub allows freedom of expression. But is it the same in all pubs?

In English pubs, ale is ordered by pints and quarts. So when customers got unruly, the bartender would yell at them "Mind your pints and quarts, and settle down." Now one may say: "mind your P's and Q's"

Have a good Wednesday and say a prayer for the families of the Atlanta police officers who were killed.

Great trivia, LP. I had a teacher that always used to say "mind your p's and q's . . . I thought it had to do with my bad grammar!

God bless the cops, the brave folks who run towards what everyone else is running away from, who answer the calls never knowing if they'll walk out again.

You have my unending gratitude and respect.

Hey Ms. C, I had a high school teacher who used to say 'You're crying with a loaf of bread under your arm." Puzzled me for years - why would you have bread under your arm? - to soak up the tears? -why not just use Kleenex?

Took me years to understand that it was about being thankful for what you have.

And a college professor who closed each class with "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof' - (St. Paul) - Took me years to 'get' don't worry about yesterday or tomorrow, today has enough to worry about!
