Should Joshua White Be Prosecuted For Alleged Negligent Baby Sitting?

Baby sitting must be different in Georgia. 26 year old Joshua White was apparently baby-sitting his girl friends 3 year old son. White's gun was some where in the home. (What kind of a neighborhood requires that a baby sitter has to have a gun?) A 3 year old apparently got a hold of the gun and shot himself above the eye. The child is expected to live; however, DeKalb County police have arrested White. DeKalb County police spokesman J.T. Ware says 26-year-old Joshua White called 911 after the boy was wounded.

Neighbor Lonnie Montgomery said, "I think parents need to watch their kids more often, pay more attention to their children because anything can happen when you have guns around the house." White was arrested after police say they received conflicting stories on how the shooting happened. White has been charged with making false statements, tampering with evidence and reckless conduct.White has been released on bond. Joshua White is presumed innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law.

He looks scary enough that he does not need a gun to protect his girlfriend and her son!

Well, maybe the gun was needed not to protect the kid, but to protect the baby sitter FROM the kid.

Arrest the MOTHER for leaving her baby with this idiot.

Is he a thug?

First of all he is a security guard, that's why he has the gun. He is not a thug. He is actually a great guy. He made a mistake and didn't think of his actions. If you don't know the person don't judge him. The question you should be asking is if he knew the child was in the home or did the mother just leave him?

Anonymous, thanks for the post. This is perhaps one of the rare forums that always wants to learn both sides of the story. Was he a live in boyfriend? A logical reader would assume that he was not arrested for illegal possession of a weapon so it was most likely a registered fire arm, correct?

Could you share with us a little more back ground on Joshua White? Did he know that the young boy was in the home? Was he suppose to be baby sitting? What conflicts were there in the stories given to the police?

Joshua White is not the parent of this child, he was in the home while his girlfriend (the mother) stepped away. He is a security guard and took his gun off after coming from work, and turned his back to answer the phone. Mistakes happen, even ones that are horrible mistakes. You all should know, you have at least made one mistake in your life. Maybe the grace of God has kept it from being a horrible mistake, but needless to say it was a mistake. So be careful before you judge a situation before hearing the whole picture.

Oh, and he is not a thug, neither is he scary. Jill, let's see what you look like after going through a very stressful situation.

anonymous,

please accept my apology. I rushed to judgment as we mortals all do at times. I should know better. Especially since I know the press doesn't always get it right. Good luck to your friend.

Sounds like an innocent mistake. That is why there are two sides to every story.

As for looking scary, most police mug shots are not to flattering. Furthermore, many security guards prefer to look scary as it may help them do their job.

In any event, both sides to every story are always welcome.Yes, everyone makes mistakes. To err is human to forgive divine.

If you are a "SECURITY GAURD" I would hope that you have been trained on gun safety. Whether or not he was aware of the child being in his care is irrelevant to the real issue and that is being irresponsible with a gun. Looking back, I'm sure Mr. White would have done things differently and hopfully he has learned something from this accident. I just thank God that Jaylin is alive and I pray he makes a complete recovery.

Shanaenae, I am so with you on this one. Security Guards are supposed to be trained in safety. You need to watch your gun 24 -7.

Hope the little boy heals up 100%.

Bottom line. It was an accident.

Even though it was an accident, you can still be negligent!

The mother is responsible for her child. Why she would leave her precious baby with a man with a gun is unknown to anyone with common sense.

The mother should be caned (like they do in Singapore) along with Mr. White.

Caning might be a little harsh!

Accidents do happen, you know...

YES MISTAKES HAPPEN BUT KNOWING JOSHUA PERSONALLY, HE IS NOT ACTUALLY THE MOST RESPONSIBLE OF PEOPLE. HE ACTUALLY DOES NOTHING FOR HIS OWN CHILD. I THINK THAT THE MOTHER SHOULD SHARE SOME OF THE BLAME FOR THIS BECAUSE SHE REALLY DID NOT KNOW JOSHUA ALL THAT LONG AND STILL CHOSE TO LEAVE HER CHILD WITH HIM.

Please tell us a little more about Joshua and why you think he might not be a great choice as a sitter.

Every one needs to investigate who they trust their kids to...

keep an eye on your sitter folks.
