Was Dane Cook An Embezzlement Victim At the Hands of Darryl McCauley, His Half Brother?

Maybe Dane Cook just thought a dollar didn't buy what it used to. Or maybe he was too focused on his upcoming Nassau Coliseum gig on May 3, 2009. How else could the comedian explain not knowing that his half brother was allegedly embezzling perhaps in excess of a million dollars from him?

Comedian Dane Cook discussed with Larry King the "terrible betrayal" by Darryl McCauley, his half brother, who is accused of embezzling from him. Cook's half brother allegedly did the embezzling while he was the comics manager. McCauley was arrested in December and faces larceny, forgery and other charges in Boston. McCauley allegedly transferred Cook's money into his own account. He is also accused of forging a $3 million dollar check written on Cook's account. The Massachusetts attorney general's office is pursuing the investigation. Meanwhile, McCauley is incarcerated awaiting trial. McCauley denies all wrong doing and has plead not guilty. Interview with Dane Cook
Cook talked briefly about the ordeal Thursday.

According to Cook, he worked with his half brother for several years. One day he realized there was a lot of money not accounted for. He feels he has been betrayed. When Larry King asked Cook how he deals with his sense of betrayal., Cook replied: "Dance. Larry, you dance."

I may just show up at his gig. He sounds like he could use the money and I could use the laughs.

Seems to me that Dane may have turned a blind eye to the matter for a while. It reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend.

Me: Dude, you see your wife over there holding that big handsome man's hand?

Him: Yes, I have seen her with that gorilla several times.

Me: You gonna do something about it?

Him: Yes, but I am waiting for the right moment.

Me: Dude, right moment? What are you talking about.

Him: You know, the moment when she is with a much smaller guy.

Maybe his brother just felt a feeling of entitlement. You know, he thought Dane was not as funny as he and therefore he deserved a big cut of the profits.

What a great source of comedy jokes...

"Take my brother... literally take him away in chains."

"Now take my brother for instance... no you can't. The State of Massachusetts's has him."

With the potential new gags, maybe his brother really was entitled to compensation.

Sounds like McCauley "danced" away with his brothers money.

Wonder if the IRS will come knocking next?
