Critics Demand Imus Be Fired Over Remarks and He is... But Could He Come Back? Kia Vaughn to Sue?

"I Said a Bad Thing"

On his show Wednesday, Imus was talking to producer Bernard McGuirk about the NCAA women's championship game when he said of the Rutgers team, "That's some nappy-headed hos there, I'm going to tell you that."

Radio talk show host Don Imus said this morning that he wanted to meet with members of the Rutgers women's basketball team to apologize in person for comments he made on air last week.
"These women don't know who I am," Imus said today on his radio show. "They don't know if I'm on a right-wing diatribe or I was drunk." Maybe true Imus, but without even meeting you I will bet most folks think you are a "dumb***."

Update 8-14-07: Don Imus apparently reached a settlement with CBS involving the wrongful termination of his multimillion-dollar contract. Imus is now possibly negotiating with WABC radio to resume his broadcasting career. The Imus-CBS settlement will resolve Imus' threatened $120 million breach-of-contract lawsuit according to Dana McClintock of CBS. No terms of settlement were disclosed.

Update 8-15-07: Rutgers basketball player Kia Vaughn is apparently suing Imus and CBS for defamation of character. She claims that unless they changed the definition of "Hoe" it does not apply to her. ( I was taught the word referred to a garden tool.)

Don Imus is a bully. This could not have happened to a more deserving guy. Karma

While it is hard to defend Imus, I must say he was awesome when he roasted the Clintons many years ago at the annual media dinner. Hardly any laughs, but Imus was sweating like crazy since Bill and Hill were seated closeby. Wonder if that doozy ever made it to Youtube????

Legalpubmastersir: Would it be possible for you to kindly post a photo of the aforementioned bball players so we can see if what Imus says makes any sense whatsoever?

By the way, what is a nappy-headed hos, anyway?

Give me a break! The media can say anything they want about The President, but a talk show radio schock jock can't use the word "ho?" Hate to say it but I agree with this Ron Clown again. Is there even such a thing as a "nappy head ho?"

Imus is ignorant. How can you folks be so insensitive to the political incorrectness of such statements! It's time that we embrace equality and rid the country of prejudice and stereotypes.

Mike, as always you are an insensitive swine. Viper, you are right on. Ron, quit making fun of the best Presidents we will ever have: Bill and Hillary!

The thought of Hillary as President of our great nation is truly depressing.

The only thing more depressing than that is the thought of someone thinking that she will be one of "the greatest." Yeesh.

As far as Mr. Imus' comments go, he clearly got exactly what he was aiming for: shock value.

-This is hardly the first time Mr. Imus has made racially insensitive remarks during a broadcast. In a 1997 interview with “60 Minutes,” he said he chose one white staffer to tell racial jokes on his show. He once referred to the PBS anchor Gwen Ifill as “a cleaning lady.” And in 2001 he took a pledge, guided by the Chicago Tribune columnist Clarence Page, to refrain from making further racist comments on his program.

Mr. Imus’s defenders say that he is actually an equal-opportunity offender: Jews, gays and Roman Catholics are also his frequent targets. Yesterday’s show, on Good Friday, included a song couplet that managed to rhyme the words “resurrection” and “erection.” ::The New York Times::-

His words should be taken with a grain of salt as he is clearly aiming to be edgy and stir things up a bit as he did concerning the Rutgers women's basketball team. This does not, however, excuse this behavior. Using racial slurs to get ahead in the radio industry is neither ethical nor professional.

Ms K:

Awesome first post. Your response is among the best. You have added facts that the mainstream media has for the most part ignored. So I assume you share the majority legal opinion that this radio shock jock is a "dumb***."

Hey pubmeister, give the poster a break she is a top "domer scholar." As such she does not sink to the vulgarity that has become so common in todays society. Her point is clear. Imus says what he wants to make headlines. He has become accustomed to making politically incorrect statements and until he is fired, it is not likely to stop

He's dumb and he's fired, so shock jock radio is gone forever........
