Emirati Rulers Outlaw Romance For Michelle Palmer and Vince Acors By Extending Their Vacation By Three Months in Jail

Has romance been officially outlawed? Michelle Palmer (36) and Vince Acors think so. They were arrested for allegedly having sex on the Dubai beach. Has this caused Michelle Palmer to become depressed and disillusioned because of a legal ban on romance? Perhaps the British woman is simply depressed because of her sentence of three months in jail and $350 in fines courtesy of Judge Hamdi Mustafa Abu el-Khair. After the couple serves their sentence, they will be deported from Dubai. Palmer's depression is real. Too stressed to attend court.

The official charges were: "sex outside marriage, public indecency and drunkenness."
The couple could have been sentenced to several years in jail! (This seems like a great advertising strategy for enticing tourists desiring a romantic vacation!) The conservative laws enforced by Emirati rulers constitutes a real hinderance on tourism. The lighter sentence was given to show Westerners that Dubai still wants their tourist dollars. Yeah, right...
Update 10-21-08: The couple have been released onbail pending their appeal. Both Michelle Palmer, 36, and Vincent Acors, 34, deny that they had intercourse. Their attorney, Hassan Mattar, will handle the appeal. The first appellate hearing will be on November 18 in Dubai.

Well, they should have controlled themselves. That is what hotel rooms are for.

No harm, no foul. I could see a fine, but 3 months jail! Talk about over kill.

You left out some of the allegations. Michelle was arrested for alleged assault and indecency. (Quite frankly, had she been 10 pounds lighter she would have been real decent looking.)

Also had she been more submissive she may not have been charged. She was "on top" when the police man attempted to stop the pleasure and she allegedly wanted to finish... She allegedly attacked the policeman who had previously warned her to get busy else where.

So Michelle should not be complaining that she is at the top of the tabloid headlines when her wanting to remain on top is what perpetrated her arrest.

The consequences for Michelle were too great. Not only does she get 3 months in jail, she was also apparently fired from her job as a manager at the ITP Publishing company for violating a decency clause in her contract. (And contrary to the above poster, Michelle is cute, in good shape and very decent.) Michelle has been quoted elsewhere saying,"Please be sympathetic for the sake of those I love, if this were you, your sister/brother, your daughter/son, how would you really be feeling?"

Well Michelle, I am in your corner. I think you were taken in by a handsome, charming guy. Alcohol apparently made you lose your inhibitions and make a mistake. I would be more than happy to vacation with you any day. I think you are hot, and now you are famous. Try to get a Playboy pictorial and cash in on your 10 minutes of fame. Then I would be happy to visit Bermuda with you as I have always been fond of hot woman, hot sand, and tropical drinks.

Thanks but the policeman bloke got a bad rap on this one.

The lad and lass need to learn to control their suds. Should never have been caught skippin on the beach without a lookout.

If what dowling is saying is true, then she got exactly what she deserved.

She should have dismounted and continued her routine elsewhere.

Dubai is clearly sending a message to foreigners that they need to leave loose morals and indecency in the states.

How cheap are these people? Was it so hard going back to their hotel room and finishing of the party there?....All this embarassement and attention was avoidable.

Pan, one or more of the participants recently said that they were naive and didn't realize the possible consequences of their actions. Such is love...
