Katherine Renae Bodem of Lakeville, Minnesota is charged with two counts of manslaughter in the drowning death of her 11-month-old daughter. Katherine Renae Bodem, 38, apparently was shopping online for shoes when her daughter, Cecelia Katherine, drowned in the bathtub. (A baby photo of Cecial appears above that was taken by family members.) Officers arrived on Aug. 25 to find two women out in front of the house administering CPR to a baby. Bodem apparently was standing nearby yelling, "It's all my fault." Bodem apparently put the baby and her 2-year-old brother in the bathtub on the main floor of the house. Meanwhile, Bodem went downstairs for a few minutes where her other two children were playing. Bodem told officers that said she could still hear Cecelia and her brother playing. When she heard silence, she went upstairs and saw her son pulling Cecelia from the tub.Bodem told police she had left the two children unattended in the tub for about 10 minutes. One of Bodem's other children told police it was about 20 minutes.
Betty Koberoski, Bodem's mother, told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that she fears her daughter suffers from depression and that a year ago she report her daughter to authorities because of concerns about the children. Bodem is charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter. If convicted, she could face up to 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.
Update 12-18:From charging information, it appears the 11 year old's story is accurate. The mom appears to have done an incredibly foolish thing, but that does not mean she deliberately intended to put her children at risk. While Child Protective Services with the help of relatives need to step in and protect these children from harm, no punishment by the State will ever match what will haunt Bodem for life. LINK
Update 5-6-08: As most on here knew or suspected, Katherine Bodem has apparently plead guilty. Likely, she will be entering a plea agreement real soon. (I suspect she already knows the terms of the agreement.) Dakota County District Court will apparently formally sentenced her on May 19. To all of her friends, foes, relatives, in laws etc., feel free to continue to post as long as you label and differentiate your opinions v. facts.

Yes she keeps bouncing back yet her baby was bouncing in the tub gasping for air when the only person CeCe could count on to help her survive a simple bath could have cared a less. To bad the baby can't say she survived her mothers selfishness. Bounce Bodem Bounce. Survive all you want. It will never ever change what you did and did not do.
Bouncing baby CeCe bodem to death. Rubber balls float in water and so do dead drown babies. Just ask the surving Bodem.
Too bad the sibling did not help baby C. sit back up.
He did try but he had to get out himself. When the others told their mom the baby was crying she told them to shut up.
Just an all around tradgedy.
Hopefully it will all get better and go away when she has to go to jail and dress in orange (not very becoming for her)and for such a psycho looking person I hope they have a mirror in her cell so she can go insane again when she is alone and sees what a wreck she is and how damaged her family is. Oh those poor poor children. They could use a way longer break from her then what they are getting. So does her husband.

Hey Kathy Little Sister, I hope you and your family hold your head up high, and not let all these crazy comments get you down. Your faith and prayers will get you threw these time. When you were little your sister baby sat for me. She was always good and responsible. I remember being around her first 2 children, she was a very good mother and loved her kids. I didn't get to know the other kids because we moved away. But always remember the beautiful Kathy inside and out. My prayers are also with here and her children. When something terrible goes wrong in our life, people are quick to judge, without knowing or living inside your foot steps. I hope everyone can heal soon. God Bless you all. I would just like to say as a family member reading these posts for only the second time- I am Kathy's sister-- Many of you have accused my mother (Betty Koberoski) of writing as anonymous and of being a bad person and worse of all being under investigation for harming my child--her only other grandchild!! This makes me SICK!! You do need to stick to facts! My mother does not even know how to turn a computer on and is the best Grandmother and mother I could ask for. She has done nothing but love and give everything she had to this family. We do not know all the facts because we were cut out of the Bodem's lives. We do know there is something really wrong going on and can get no response from the family except screaming profanities at any one of us who tries to call. We are a good, close family and this has torn us all up inside. If anyone has real information that could somehow help us to understand why this is happening. Anyone from their new church? please help. We don't know what to do. I am the Godmother of 2 of these 4 beautiful children and they are so important to me and my family. I dream of this family every night-- that they come back to us once again. Karolyn
