Lauren Spierer Disappearance Puzzles Authorities Update 6-29-16 Videotape,Testimony, Time-lines, Tall Tales, Possible Guest & Still Nobody?

Grave concern over the safety of Lauren Spierer has overcome the Indiana University Campus in Bloomington since the twenty year old disappeared early Friday morning. Two searches have taken place, so far all of no avail. (Head basketball coach Tom Crean participated in one of the searches as did numerous other members of the faculty.) Police are seeking any information about Lauren's whereabouts.

This 20 year-old blond woman is a 2009 graduate of Edgemont High School in Scarsdale, N.Y. She is currently a junior at Indiana University studying fashion merchandising. She was taking a summer class in Bloomington at Ivy Tech. She was last seen leaving Kilroy Sports bar on Friday early in the morning, wearing black pants, a white shirt and no shoes. According to the Indiana Daily-Student, Spierer lived only a block and a half away from Kilroy's. Her known locations that early morning were all within a three block radius of her Smallwood apartment. Video from the apartment complex is consistent with Lauren never reaching her apartment. Indiana Daily-Student

Lauren is described as a 90 lbs, 4 feet, 11 inches tall blond with blue eyes. She was last wearing a white tank top with a light-colored shirt over it and black pants. foxnews.com Any tips should be forwarded to the Bloomington Police Department, (812) 339-4477.

Update 6-8-11: Still not much more information on Lauren. However, in Arizona a somewhat similar abduction may have taken place. Kristian Faith Ward, an 18-year-old model and mother has been missing since late last month. Ward (aka Kristian Faith Stout), was last seen walking away from the Paradise Valley Mall in Phoenix on May 27. Phoenix Police Department. Ward apparently picked up her check at the mall and then subsequently disappeared without a trace. (The search for Kristian Faith Ward from Phoenix, Ariz., ended with the young woman's safe recovery, according to her father. Her father said,"This is a matter of family privacy and we thank you for all of your concern and prayers." Let's all pray that the search for Lauren Spierer ends in a similar result.)

Update 6-9-11: In today's age of video surveillance, the chances of getting to the truth have increased several fold. Corey Rossman, an IU student, had been with Lauren Spierer a few hours before her disappearance. Corey was apparently punched by another man or men near Lauren's apartment. "At Smallwood, someone confronted them... He got punched in the face. He has no memory of that, or of the 15 minutes leading to that moment...” said Corey's attorney, Carl Salzmann.

Rossman has cooperated. He and Lauren were seen on videotape returning to her residence around 2:30 a.m. They then left the building about 10 minutes later. Lauren was helping Rossman go home because Rossman had been punched. The couple went to Rossman's building complex. Lauren apparently visited another apartment at the complex. There may have been another “confrontation” that morning at Rossman’s building; however, this officially remains speculation.

It is reported that Spierer was last seen rounding a corner on her way back to her apartment at about 4:15 to 4:30 a.m according to Jay Rosenbaum. (Cory Rossman was apparently not the last one to see Spierer that morning. Perhaps as many as three or four other people may have seen Lauren after Cory Rossman went to bed.) Video footage from security cameras back at Lauren’s apartment building (Smallwood) suggest that she may have argued with several men that morning. One can expect police will get to the bottom of this matter. Lauren's father is offering a $100,000 reward for information concerning his daughter.

Afternoon update: Crystal Grubb disappeared last September in Bloomington. Crystal's body was found after 13 days in a cornfield just outside of Bloomington. Her homicide remains unsolved; however, information has leaked out that her purse may have been found near one of the apartment buildings in question. If that is true, there may be link between the Crystal's murder and Lauren's disappearance. In the mean time, it has also been reported that Rossman's car, credit card and cell phone have been examined by the police for possible information. Police continue to say that Lauren was not herself involved in the altercation with the other men and that Rossman has cooperated. Spierer apparently met Cory Rossman recently at the Indianapolis 500 track.

Update 6-10-11: Here is more information about the altercation which occurred at the fifth floor lobby of Spierer's apartment. Cory Rossman apparently recently met Spierer at the Indy 500 track. He was not close with Lauren's circle of friends. Apparently, Rossman was punched in the face in the 5th floor elevator lobby by someone who may know Spierer's boyfriend. (The puncher is rumored to be Zach Oakes but his identity has not been officially released.) Spierer's boyfriend, Jesse Wolff, a 22 year old IU student from Port Washington, New York, was not present at the time of the altercation. (The person who hit Rossman may or may not be one of Wolff's friends. Wolff was reportedly at home watching basketball at the time of the altercation.) After the altercation at Smallwood Apartments, Rossman and Spierer then apparently walked to Rossman's apartment near 11th and Morton. Rossman was allegedly put to bed by his roommate (Mike Beth.) Beth was reportedly sober as he had been up late working on a term paper. Beth said that Spierer left his apartment and went to see another friend. (This is believed to be Jay Rosenbaum of West Bloomfield, MI.) Spierer reportedly left the North Townhomes apartments around 4:30 a.m. Keys and a purse were apparently found on the route between North Townhomes and Smallwood. According to today's police press conference, Parker said surveillance video from nearby businesses may show some cars in the area at the time she disappeared. Investigators are working to identify the vehicles.

Update Afternoon 6-10-11:
Nothing specific on Spierer; however, Plainfield, Indiana police are seeking information on Morgan Johnson, 27, who may be in need of medical attention. Morgan Johnson, 27, was last seen on May 18th at the Value Place hotel on Gateway Drive in Plainfield. Johnson has not made any phone calls on his cell phone or made any financial transactions. He drives a white 1995 Pontiac Grand Am, license plate # JS1830. Anyone with information on Morgan Johnson's whereabouts should call the Plainfield Police Department at 317-839-2566. Ironic that Lauren's case generated so much publicity but Morgan's did not.

Update 6-12-11: The Spierer investigation continues. Bloomington attorney Ron Chapman represents Mike Beth, a roommate of Corey Rossman. Chapman says Beth was at home doing classwork the early morning when Spierer disappeared. He says Beth is cooperating "totally and completely" with police. Both Mike Beth and Cory Rossman have apparently given police DNA samples.

Update 6-13-11
:
While the T.V. show generated tips, still no Lauren. The family has set up a website: www.findlauren.com. In the meantime, can the police publicly confirm the identity of the man in the alley captured on surveillance? (Is it indeed Rossman getting walked back from the altercation by Spierer?) See the following quote: "Surveillance video also shows Lauren in an alley walking with an acquaintance on the morning she disappeared. The alley is the same place where her keys and coin purse were found by authorities." Confirm the name of the man and provide a description and photo of the vehicles seen on video. Let the public see if they know anything about the whereabouts of this man (and perhaps of the vehicles) during the 24 hours after Lauren disappeared.

Here is what Legal Pub thinks may be an APPROPRIATE TIMELINE:12:16 a.m. While still at Smallwood, Lauren last uses her cell phone.
12:30 a.m. Hadar Tamir, Spierer's roommate at Smallwood, was hanging out with Lauren until then. Lauren then apparently went with David Rohn, to Jay Rosenbaum's apartment at North Townhomes. Rossman apparently joined Spierer at Rosenbaum's apartment. Next, Rossman apparently went with Spierer to Kilroy's Sports Bar.

2:25, Lauren and Rossman leave the bar but Lauren leaves behind her shoes and cell phone. Spierer and Corey Rossman (who lives at 5 North Townhomes) walked to Lauren's apartment complex arriving around 2:30 a.m.

Around 2:30 a.m., Jesse Wolff, Speirer's boyfriend says that he went to sleep in his apartment after watching basketball and not being able to reach Lauren Spierer by phone.

At 2:45 a.m., Rossman apparently exchanges words and perhaps a punch with some possible aquaintences of Jesse Wolff (Spierer's boyfriend.) The puncher is rumored to be Zach Oakes but that has not been confirmed. The confrontation takes place in the 5th floor elevator lobby of Spierer's apartment building. (Rossman apparently has no memory of the fight or the walk back to his apartment.)

Around 2:55, Spierer begins walking Cory Rossman home. (Just before 3:00 a.m. is apparently the last video confirmation of Lauren by the alley. It was also reported that this was near the area where a key was found. (Note Ajay A. may have been the one to find a single key around 3:00 a.m. Note, there are later reports that Spierer's keys were found on a railing near Rosenbaum's apartment at 5 North Townhomes. A poster here says that a wrist-let that carried her key, key card, and ID was seen by A.A., a friend, that morning around 3 a.m. Later that morning, 2 females (one interviewed in MSM), apparently picked up the key and one of them turned it in to law enforcement.)

Around 3:10, the couple should have arrived at Cory Rossman's apartment. Rossman's roommate, Mike Beth, claims he put Rossman to bed. Beth says he was sober and up late working on a paper. Spierer allegedly wanted to keep on partying so she apparently left Rossman's apartment to visit Jay Rosenbaum. Rosenbaum lived two doors down.

At 3:38 a bar manager allegedly sees a woman who looks like Spierer with what appears to be a darker skinned man in the alley. (Source TonyGatto.com.) Police discount the witnesses testimony based on a lack of video confirmation. ( The bar manager witness who apparently came forward and told the police that she saw an intoxicated Spierer at 3:38 a.m. at 10th and College with an unidentified man was also discredited by Bloomington police apparently because of a lack of video confirmation.)

At 4:15 a.m. there is a phone call from Rosenbaum's cell phone to David Rohn's phone which apparently goes unanswered. Rosenbaum says that it was Lauren calling David Rohn to see if he knew where her phone was located. Rosenbaum reportedly told police Spierer left the apartment complex at approximately 4:30 a.m. to walk home. (It is possible that she may have left Rosenbaum's as early as 4:16.) Rosenbaum claims that he last saw her near 11th Street and College Avenue but there is apparently no video proof of her presence.

At 4:24 a.m., what appears to be a white four door Sierra circles the block. Police say they checked out the owner of the vehicle. (The 4:24 sighting of what was described as a white Silverado or Colorado truck captured on video has been declared not related by Bloomington police.)

(NOTE: while police say that "a neighbor of Rossman" say that Spierer was last seen around
4:30 a.m., police apparently have no video confirmation of Lauren at that time. It is assumed that "the neighbor" who gave this statement is Jay Rosenbaum.)

4:30 a.m. There is an unconfirmed report that a homeless man heard a scream.7:30: Later Friday Morning: Allegedly the trash dumpsters were emptied on Friday before 8:00 a.m.

7:45 Jesse Wolff
apparently gets up and takes a roommate to his 8:00 a.m. class.

Later that morning: Wolff apparently texts Lauren without any answer. Killroys apparently texts back to "tell your friend her phone is here." Wolff contacts Hadar Tamir to get Lauren's keys to see if Lauren is still in her apartment. Wolfe enters the apartment in the afternoon. Wolff apparently calls Lauren's parents to say she is missing. Sara and Amanda Roude fill out some type of missing person's report with the Bloomington police. (It appears that Lauren was reported missing within 12 hours of her last alleged sighting.) Unconfirmed reports also describe a possible confrontation between Wolff and Jay Rosenbaum on that Friday.

Representation: Persons of interest have legal representation and thus direct access to them is not possible. Rosenbaum is represented by attorney James Voyles. Wolff is being represented by Joe Lozano. Wolff met Spierer in summer camp as a child. They have been dating for a couple of years. Wolff, is reported to have spent the evening watching basketball and unsuccessfully attempting to reach Spierer by text. Wolff allegedly went to bed in his residence at 2:30 p.m. Wolff did track down Spierer's roommate (Hadar Tamir) the next day. She gave him keys to the apartment where he confirmed Lauren was missing. Wolff apparently called Lauren's parents to tell them he could not find Lauren. Wolff is believed to be back in his home town of Port Washington, New York. Jay Rosenbaum is believed to be back at home in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Cory Rossman and Mike Beth apparently remain in Bloomington going about their normal lives.

All person's of interest are to be presumed innocent!

Update 6-14-11: Rumors persist that Lauren Spierer may have overdosed on cocaine and alcohol. If Lauren (who had a heart condition) really did die of an overdose (and those with her panicked and disposed of her body) then those folks should come forward to authorities with the truth. Mike Beth's attorney denies that there is any truth to the rumor of some type of coverup. KEEP IN MIND AT THIS POINT, RUMORS ARE MERELY RUMORS AND NOT FACT.

From the video, a more accurate description of Lauren's clothing is as follows: "A V-neck white shirt that may have had a "distressed" look, with elbow-length butterfly sleeves and a scooped bottom. She also wore black leggings with silver zippers at the ankles." With regard to the timeline, video from an alley between Smallwood and Rossman's apartment showed them walking toward his building around 3 a.m. Keys were later found in that alley. A neighbor of Rossman reported seeing Spierer leave around 4:30 a.m., but police have no video confirmation of Spierer after the 3 a.m.

Update 6-15-11:
Equisearch was in town adding firepower to the search for Lauren Spierer. Legal Pub also had a presence in Bloomington. There is a construction project underway that seemed like a logical place to search. Many dumpsters in the area are regularly emptied and the contents taken to a land fill in another city. Presumably the police have alerted the landfill in question. The bottom line is that if Lauren got into a motor vehicle, then the search area is vast. For example, Bloomington and the surrounding rural areas have many wooded areas and bodies of water. The further one travels away from Bloomington, the more rural the area. While rumors of an accidental death persist, there is little evidence to substantiate many of the claims. Foul play is not always the culprit. One can't help but recall the missing Purdue student, Wade Steffey, who was later found dead after he stumbled into a high voltage area. Key questions to a few persons of interest and locating the drivers of one or two vehicles in the area could possibly lead to locating Lauren Spierer. Unfortunately, a prompt resolution is not in sight.

Legal Pub would welcome the opportunity to get input directly from Hadar Tamir. She can reach us at legalpub@legalpub.net. Of interest is Hadar's statement that Lauren Spierer used Rosenbaum's phone to call David Rhon at 4:15 a.m. that morning to see if he knew the whereabouts of her cell phone. Rhon has apparently cooperated with police.
Finally photos of the white pickup truck and of Lauren at the apartment have been released. See top of page. We still need photos of the last confirmed sighting and a public confirmation who was with her in the photos. Knowing all of the people who were at Rosenbaum's that early morning would also be helpful.

Update 6-16-11:
Apparently the purse found belonged to a former homicide victim Angela Holder not Crystal Grubb. Holder was a 39 year old resident who worked at the Scottish Inn. She apparently argued with her boyfriend and was found stabbed to death in her residence on June 7, 2011. Bruce Edward Foster has been arrested on charges of murder arising out of what is believed to be a crime of passion.

LINK Another photo of the truck is posted above. There is another surveillance photo of Lauren that police have not released. Police won't say if there is anyone else in the photo!

Update 6-17-11: A search warrant was apparently obtained in the Spierer case to search the Republic Sycamore Ridge Landfill in Pimento Indiana. Police have not yet acted on the warant. In the mean time, police are following up on leads concerning the white Colorado or Silverado truck in the photos. Apparently the truck circled the block and when it left, it failed to stop for a stop sign. Some one, some where, knows about an acquaintance who was driving a white truck in Bloomington, Indiana in the early morning hours of June 3, 2011! In an unrelated case, Carley Jean Lewis, the missing 16 year-old girl from Michigan was found dead. An acquaintance of Carley, Robert Jensen Schwander, is charged with "Open Murder."

Afternoon 6-17-11: The end game would seem near with the reported sighting at 3:38 at 10th and College. According to an unidentified witness believed to be a bar manager, a drunk Spierer was apparently seen with a man who at one point put Lauren over his shoulder. According to the witness, the darker skinned man does not look like any of the person's of interest. The witness allegedly told TonyGatto.com that Lauren appeared very intoxicated. Lauren may have even hit her head in the encounter. (Why has this witness not come forward sooner? Is she credible? Why have the police not released the rest of the video? Why does her timeline (3:38 sighting) apparently conflict with Rosenbaum's statement? Police apparently believe that this bar manager's recollection of time is erroneous.) In perhaps a completely unrelated manner, there are reports of a bag of man and woman's clothes being found in a dumpster behind Lauren's apartment. The clothing supposedly has nothing to do with the Spierer case; however, authorities do not always tell the public everything. Police took no questions today at their police conference.

Update 6-20-11:
Without tips, the search for Lauren must depend upon luck. The search has expanded to outlying areas. It is reasonable to believe that a bridge, wooded area and water area off of highway 37 was recently searched near Martinsville. Apparently nothing of significance was recovered. It is also reasonable to assume that the police have followed up on leads on what is believed to be a 2006 to 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 with fancy wheels, black handles and a black protector over the bed rails. Officially, the search continues. It remains difficult to reconcile the bar manager's alleged 3:38 sighting of Lauren with a dark skinned man at 11th and college with Rosenbaum's story that he last saw her at 4:30 a.m.

Police visited the owner of the white truck and he has cooperated fully. Police conclude that he was not involved in the Spierer incident. He was picking up a worker in an area with lots of construction. Police are satisfied with the man's explanation. Law enforcement also indicates that the clothes found by the dumpster at Smallwood are not related to the case. Finally, the search near Martinsville did not turn up anything. Assuming the police information is accurate, given no video evidence of Spierer after 2:45, the focus most likely will shift back to what happened at Rosenbaum's apartment complex. Keep in mind, that David Rohn was quoted early on to the effect that he was with Lauren early in the evening at a friends (presumably Rosenbaum's apartment.) Then he went back to Smallwood and she presumably went to Sports. (Fox 59 video.) If David Rohn mentions the 4:15 call Rosenbaum says Lauren made on his phone to David Rohn, I can't find Rohn's comments in the press. An attorney has said that Rohn was asleep and the call went unanswered. David Rohn participated in the search on 6-5-11 and gave a voluntary statement to Fox 59. Police say that Rossman, Beth, Rosenbaum, Rohn and Wolff have cooperated. Just what was the 4:15 call all about and who said what?Update 6-21-11: Try not to be too critical of law enforcement. It is not just the Bloomington police department. The U.S. Marshall's office, the FBI and the Indiana State police are all involved to some extent. By way of clarification, the official explanation of the white truck is as follows: "The owner of the truck was driving in that location, an area with a lot of construction, to pick up a worker."The driver has been interrogated and law enforcement is confident that the pickup was not involved in the disappearance of Lauren Spierer. As for those calling for a further interrogation of certain person's of interest, there is no way at to make them speak further. Upon advice of counsel, they are unlikely to give any further statements. That does not in any way make them guilty. In fact, they are presumed innocent. Finally, the bar manager's story is a continued source of investigation. Keep in mind, it is a process that tries to rule theories out. Other surveillance footage in other parts of Bloomington may be helpful to track vehicle movement; however, there appears to be no video surveillance at 5 North Townhomes complex where Lauren Spierer apparently last visited before her disappearance.

Update 6-22-11: Police will hold a briefing today. While they may take few questions, here are what we believe are the "probable answers" to questions that our readers have been asking:

1. Comments are still posted, but to read them, you must got to the bottom of the comments and click on "newer posts."
2. You may assume that Bloomington police have access to Rosenbaum's and Rohn's phone records. This is possible through consent and through subpoena.
3. You may also assume that law enforcement knows whether or not the 4:15 a.m. caller left a message. If one was left, rest assured it has been reviewed.
4. There are no reports as to the degree of inebriation (if any) of Rosenbaum or Rohn. Assumptions that Rohn or Rosenbaum were "wasted" etc are rank speculation at this point.
5. Mike Beth and Rossman appear to have gone out of their way to cooperate. They remain in Bloomington. It was Beth who said Lauren left to go to Rosenbaum's and that turned out to be true.
6. Lauren's keys were reportedly found on a rail near Rosenbaum's apartment. The exact location has not been reported. Keep in mind, Rossman and Beth live two doors down from Rosenbaum. It is possible Lauren never possessed the keys at Rosenbaum's apartment or that she could have lost them in transition. We do know that Rosenbaum is the last person to report that he was with Lauren and that was shortly before 4:30.
7. Surveillance cameras, if motion activated, tend to detect larger objects. Depending on their settings, Lauren would not necessarily be considered a "larger object."
8. Law enforcement has much more information then what they are releasing to the public. The public has "no right to know." On the other hand, when information might help lead to a resolution, law enforcement releases the information.
9. Until they find Lauren, they do not have a cause of death. If her death was arrhythmia induced from consumption of illegal drugs, then suppliers of those drugs could faces charges UNLESS they cooperate with the State and enter into a deal. Keep in mind, no drug use is confirmed at this point.
10. Once a person of interest is identified as a true person of interest, they tend to remain watched even if they leave town. U.S. Marshall's and FBI are involved...
11. This is a process of elimination. Many theories have already been ruled out. Be a little patient. Retaining legal counsel is smart and not a sign of guilt. Find Lauren and the rest will follow...

Update 6-23-11: Yesterday's press conference revealed nothing that has not already been discussed. While Lauren's parents are disappointed in the number of tips and the less then 50 people who showed up for the most recent search, the overall suport for finding Lauren and the truth has been just short of remarkable. While this tragic event has forever changed the Speirer's life, life must go on. Unless Lauren's body wound up in a landfill, eventually she will be found. Perhaps, only then will some answers become apparent.

As for who was at Rosenbaum's apartment that early morning, one suspects that the official response is likely as follows: Early that morning, Lauren and David Rohn were apparently at Jay Rosenbaum's apartment. Cory Rossman joined them at Rosenbaum's. Rossman and Lauren then left to go to Sports. Lauren and Rossman went to Smallwood, where Rossman got punched. Rossmman and Lauren then apparently returned to Rossman's apartment where he was put to bed by Mike Beth. Lauren then went over to Rosenbaum's. I have seen no evidence that Beth was ever at Rosenbaum's apartment that early morning . (Another blog claims Beth was present prior to Lauren and Rossman visiting Sports. ) There is no official report of anyone else having been present at Rosenbaum's when Lauren was last present. However, it is certainly possible that someone else was present as suggested by Cory Rossman's attorney. Perhaps that person or persons identity has not been released.

Two lingering questions for Jesse Wolff's attorney may help clarify things:
When does Jesse's roommates say that they last saw Jesse on June 3, 2011? Second, Did you read your client's Facebook postings?Update 6-30-11: The police search for DNA has intensified. On Wednesday, law enforcement and their K-9's sniffed inside the apartments located at Five North Complex at 11th and Morton. According to the Herald Times, Bloomington police also searched Jesse Wolff’s house in the 600 block of East Ninth Street. At the Five North apartments, they apparently searched Corey Rossman and Mike Beth's apartment. It is unknown whether they also entered Jay Rosenbaum's apartment.

Based on the released evidence, Rosenbaum was the last to admit seeing Lauren Spierer
. (Another blog claims it was Mike Beth, which we believe is inaccurate.) Beth and Rossman have fully cooperated and remain in Bloomington. Jesse Wolff claims he had stayed home and was in bed. Jesse is now in New York and has not participated in the searches, either at the instruction of law enforcement or upon advice of counsel.

7. Mystery man in alley. Police have said LS last appears on video around 2:51 p.m. in the presence of a "known person." This could be CR or someone entirely different.
8. Mystery man described by bar manager at 3:38 a.m. This could be number 7 with an error in time or it could be someone completely different. Bar manager says someone looking like L.S. is drunk and thrown over the shoulder of the dark skinned, polo clad rather short individual. The bar managers testimony appears to be discounted by law enforcement at least as to the time it allegedly occurred.

http://www.heraldtimesonline.com/stories/2011/06/22/news.qp-4391232.sto

9. A.B. and B.B. This cast of characters would be roommates of ZO. They apparently live at 10th and college. What exactly were they doing that early morning? Their involvement or lack of involvement has not been verified nor publicly released.

10. A.A. Described off the record as an all around good guy. He apparently saw LS's key around 3:00 a.m.

11. Hadar Tamir. From Roslyn Heights New York. LS roommate. A.S. is another roommate. HT is one of only a few that have openly shared thoughts with the press. Says Wolff is a great boyfriend who would never hurt LS. Indicates that LS me CR at the Indy 500 track. Labelled as a very cooperative witness.

12. D.R. A 20 year-old from New York, New York. Studying recreational sports management. Lives at Smallwood. LS allegedly called his phone using JR's phone at 4:15 am. DR was allegedly in bed and did not answer. Participates in the first searches and is labeled as cooperative. Believed to be represented by attorney Ron Chapman.

13. Homeless man. Allegedly told law enforcement that he heard a scream at around 4:30 a.m. Reports concerning this man remain sketchy and unverified. Some say this character is completely fictitious.

14. Two girls. Allegedly two girls turned in LS's key and id.

15. Owner of a white truck. First police say there our a couple of vehicles in the area and they want to check out whether the owners know anything. Later photos of a white truck are released with the information that it was near the scene at 4:24 a.m. It apparently runs a stop sign and may have circled the block. Bloomington police then release a statement that the owner of the white truck has been identified and is not involved in the LS case. The identification of the driver of the truck remain private and are not released to public. No further mention is made of the other vehicles in the area.

16. Robert and Charlene Spierer. Grieving parents. Four months and still looking for their daughter. They just want closure, not a pound of flesh.

17. Law Enforcement. Police have refused to release the last known videos of LS for reasons completely unknown. At least one person has been very critical of the investigation. (See 7-9-11 update for link.) Even the Herald Times has quotes indicating that the landfills have yet to be searched. http://www.heraldtimesonline.com/stories/2011/07/16/news.qp-0661144.sto

18. Garbageman. Dumpsters in the area are usually picked up by 8:00 a.m. The garbage is typically brought to a station and then trucked to the landfill south of Terre Haute. Not unusual for the garbage to be buried in the landfill before noon.

19. L.S. Call her the wild card. With no physical evidence of a crime, could she have had temporary amnesia and be alive and living some where? Very doubtful, but we know of rare cases like Lula Hood found after forty years.

Update 6-25-11: Search was not successful despite a good turn out of volunteers. No more formal press conferences unless the police discover something of significance.Update 6-29-11: State police helicopters flew over the Bloomington area confirming what has already been reported, the area is vast with lots of wooded areas and bodies of water. Official searches have been called off. The McNutt search headquarters will close today. Future searches will be conducted only pursuant to reliable tips. Presumably law enforcement has checked local land fills... Prayer service tomorrow night in Bloomington. Last scheduled press conference at BPD will be Friday. Lauren's parents will read a statement.

Update 6-24-11:
Plans for a massive search on Saturday! Send in the drones...
Keep in mind we do not live in a police state where subjects are forced to submit to unfair interrogation. Indiana will not tolerate strong
armed confessions like what apparently happened during the 1987 homicide investigation involving Peggy Hettrick. Timothy Masters, who was actually convicted of the crime, has recently been exonerated after serving ten years of a life sentence. Masterson was saved by DNA evidence. Shortly after the crime, the 15 year-old Masterson was subjected to vigorous police interrogation which ultimately resulted in his conviction.

Update 6-27-11: The days of wanting to clear one's name in the press have apparently become a thing of the past for some. Neither Jason Rosenbaum nor Jesse Wolff apparently have anything to say to Mr. or Mrs Spierer about their daughter. Their attorneys remain tight lipped as well. The Spierers just want closure. Nevertheless, there are growing rumors that Rosenbaum had a guest at his home that early morning besides Lauren. Police have not officially released the guest's name. The problem with rumors is that it can spread inaccurate information and spoil an investigation. If they turn out true, they can be darn right embarrassing for law enforcement if they let such an individual slip away without so much as an interview. So until either the police or the person's of interest come forward with facts, there is not much to do but ignore the rumors and wait until Lauren is discovered.

Update 6-28-11: Attorney James Voyles is truly a master who knows that silence is not always golden. Credit has to be given to Rosenbaum's attorney for not remaining silent. Monday afternoon, Voyles told the press that Rosenbaum has cooperated fully. He claims that his client gave "a full statement" to authorities and also said that the results of a polygraph have been shared with the police. (Presumably Voyles had a private polygraph given to Rosenbaum.) Voyles statements spawn additional questions. Does this open the door for the police to provide a response to the press? May they now ask this cooperative witness additional questions? And last but not least, "Who was your house guest that early morning"? Hadar Tamir claims that Rosenbaum had a friend from his hometown staying with him that early morning. One wonders if this individual offered police the opportunity to interview him and search his vehicle?

Update July 1, 2011: Thursdays prayer service was filled with support and encouragement for Robert and Charlene Spierer. A minister prayed that whoever knows what happened to Lauren steps out of "the shadows of darkness."
The Spierers will read a statement of thanks and a promise that they will not rest until Lauren is found.

Update 7-2-11: Perhaps we were the first to point out the disparate treatment of Morgan Johnson's case in our 6-10-11 update. Now, Morgan's mom is doing something about it.
Ann Smith filed a civil rights complaint against the Plainfield Police Department. She wants them taken off the case immediately and wants the state police to take over the investigation and that the case get the same attention as the Lauren Spierer case. "Based on other current and recent investigations on other missing persons in Indiana, there is a disparity in the action taken for them and not the same actions taken for Morgan," said Smith. Ironically, at least one newspaper, the Indianapolis Star, appears to be very critical of the Bloomington police for not doing more in the 4 weeks since Lauren's disappearance.

Update 7-4-11: Yesterday evening around 7:00 p.m. some one called in a sighting of a body in Fall Creek (Marion County.) The badly decomposed female body has yet to be identified. While it is possible that this might be related to the Spierer case, it is more likely to be a missing Indianapolis woman.

Update 7-5-11:
The official word is that an autopsy of the body is scheduled for Tuesday. Police hope the forensic examination leads to the woman's identity. A press conference has been scheduled for after the autopsy. Unofficially, L.P. has been told that the hair on the decomposed body will not rule out Lauren. The teeth, however, do not appear to be Lauren's. Thus, the search is likely to continue. Noon Update: The tip to L.P. was correct. The coronor confirmed that the body found in Fall Creek was NOT Lauren Spierer. The coronor believes the very badly decomposed body is that of an African American woman.Update 7-7-11: The public's thirst for knowledge has generated wild speculation and rumor. It is extremely unlikely that Lauren Spierer ran off to Israel or anywhere else without her shoes and cell phone. (Heck now days young adults don't typically leave the house without the ability to text. See Legal Pub article on sexting. LINK.) Similarly, it is unlikely that professionals were "called in" to dispose of a body. More likely the remains will turn up someday in a field or body of water. If that does not happen, then the remains may have made it to a land fill. Law enforcement continues to investigate and follow up leads. When they are ready to come forward, they certainly will do so.

Update 7-8-11: Recent news may encourage the Spierer family not to give up hope.
Lula Cora Hood, disappeared in 1970 after a family fight. Forty years later, this missing Illinois woman has now been discovered alive and well and living in Florida. Forty years later, police in Galesburg, Illinois say they've found her in Florida.

Update 7-9-11: One reader suggested that the Bloomington Police Department should check their own ranks for Persons of Interest. While Legal Pub does not share this opinion, it is linking a site that apparently thinks such a hypothesis is worth exploring. LINK. In the meantime, Saturday is an opportunity for a renewed search for Lauren. Past searchers are gathering at the track in an event called "Laps for Lauren." The Find Lauren site has details for those interested in participating in the event. Twitter Find Lauren posted: "Don't be sorry, just start being honest. It's not going to go away. The situation or the guilt. No one will know you called. 800-CRIMETV."

Update 7-11-11:
The rest of the world goes on with its lives as illustrated by Seven Eleven giving out free Slurpees in honor of today's date. For the Speirers, the struggle is not over and they are not alone. "We will continue to be with the family every step of the way,” said Rabbi Sue Silberberg, director of IU’s Helene G. Simon Hillel Center. “We are determined and will not stop until we find Lauren.” Similarly, IU is continuing to provide some funding to defray the cost of future recovery efforts.

Update 7-12-11: An early preview of tomorrows post. If this were a play, the cast might include a list of interesting people as potential characters. Please note these are not "suspects" and they are not even necessarily "persons of interest"; however, as one poster pointed out, they are all interesting people.

1. Mike Beth.
From Morganville, New Jersey. Roommate of CR at 5 North Townhomes. Up late, allegedly sober working on a paper. Beth told The Journal News on 6-10-11 that he did give a DNA sample, but that he was told by his lawyer not to discuss the case with reporters. “I just hope that they find her,” he said. “She was our friend.” http://www.lohud.com/article/20110610/NEWS02/106100365/Police-obtain-DNA-from-Lauren-Spierer-s-companion-his-roommate ~by Shawn Cohen and Jonathan Bandler. Apparently cooperative. Note attorney Chapman says that the lawyers for MB, CR and JR have all discussed the matter and Chapman claims none of these three are responsible for the LS disappearance. LINK.

2. Corey Rossman. He is one of the few legal drinkers as he is 21. In the Kelley School of Business studying real estate finance. Apparently met L.S. at the Indy 500. Some speculate that CR might have been a johnny come lately in LS's romantic life with the two of them sharing some mutual attraction. CR joined LS at Rossman's early in the evening. CR and L.S. then went to Killroy's and then later to Smallwood where CR is apparently on a "no trespass" list. At Smallwood CR was allegedly punched by Z.O. CR and L.S. then apparently returned to CR's apartment at 5 North Townhomes where M.B. puts CR to bed. CR has little or no memory after the alleged punch according to his attorney (Salzmann) CR has apparently been cooperative.

3. Jesse Wolff. Lauren's long time boyfriend from New York. JW lived at 9th and Fess, about six blocks away from JR's. He was reportedly at home watching basketball that evening and went to bed at 2:30 a.m. Later that morning he drove a roommate to 8:00 a.m. class and tracked down Lauren's phone at Killroys. He also got a key from Tamir Hadar and confirmed L.S. was not in her room. He also called L.S. parents. He is believed to be represented by attorney Joe Lozano. Initially cooperative. (On 7-22-11, JW's facebook claims he has spoken to police and passed a polograph.)

4. Jay Rosenbaum. From West Bloomfield, MI. Lives at 5 North Townhomes two doors down from CR and MB. Apparently his apartment was a gathering place sometime after midnight. Early in the evening he hosted guest including LS, DR and CR. He may have also had a house guest who for purposes of discussion only, we will give the frictional name of D.B. JR's story is apparently that CR and LS left for the bars. LS apparently came back around 3:00 a.m. She allegedly called DR on his phone at 4:15. At 4:30 he says he saw her leave his apartment, and round the corner at 11th and college. Initially cooperative. Represented by James Voyles who told the public that his client passed a polygraph, presumably a privately administered one.

5. House guest of JR. HT suggested that JR had a house guest that early morning. LINK. We have given this "house guest" the fictional identification of D.B. He might be a hometown guest visiting JR who could fill in some of the gaps missing from "play" as it currently might be written. Police have not released the name of the house guest or what if anything he knows about the early morning in question. So, what if anything does the mysterious house guest know about that morning?

6. Z.O. The name assigned to a character who allegedly punched CR at Smallwood a little after 2:30 a.m. LS was apparently with CR at the time. The reason for the dispute is unknown although early media accounts would suggest that perhaps CR was being aggressive toward L.S. however, keep in mind LS voluntarily left with CR after the alleged altercation. (Note video of the alleged altercation have not been released to the public so the identity of the alleged puncher is not confirmed.)

20. Indiana University. IU hates the negative press. A warning has been issued to incoming freshman.

Keep in mind NONE of the above are suspects nor are they even necessarily "person's of interest." All are, however, interesting people some of whom may be able to help solve the mystery of "what happened to Lauren."Update 7-22-11: Assume this report of Lauren stumbling around Smallwood with CR is correct. LINK. Why is that such a surprise? Does someone who is not under the influence of some intoxicating substance leave shoes, cell phone and perhaps a coat elsewhere? Again assuming this is true, LS lacked capacity to knowingly consent to anything. (An intoxicated person lacks capacity to consume more alcohol, take drugs, or have sex.) Re-read Legal Pub 7-15-11 update. Now, do you really still wonder why some folks might not be too eager to volunteer information leading to her discovery? Find the body and the rest will follow...

Update July 13, 2011: SO WHERE IS NANCY GRACE? She crusaded so hard against the tot mom, Casey Anthony. The Anthony story is now a dead horse. Stop beating it and the jury to death. Your show has a chance to demonstrate real investigatory journalism. Find Lauren Spierer! Nancy, accept the challenge and see if the truth can be uncovered irrespective of the money. The Speirer family needs closure and persons of interest need to be cleared of scrutiny. You know you need credibility (and ratings) after the Anthony debacle. The challenge: Show the world that NANCY GRACE has superior investigatory reporting skills and help BPD find Lauren.

Update July 14, 2011: Still no hint of Nancy Grace getting involved. Feel free to contact her using this LINK. For those frustrated with the pace of the investigation, keep in mind the following:
~ You can only protect your liberties in this world by protecting the other man's freedom. You can only be free if I am free. ~Clarence Darrow.~ I have always found that mercy bears richer fruits than strict justice. ~Abraham Lincoln.
~ It is better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer.~William Blackstone.
(Bet some of you thought Jimmy Voyles said all these things first. LOL.)

Update July 15, 2011: It has been said that silence breeds contempt. In this case, silence breeds speculation. One of the theories bantered about is that someone gave LS a "date rape drug."
Such a drug is any chemical that can assist in the execution of a sex crime, typically a sedative or hypnotic which tends to induce amnesia. (This could include serving her alcohol past the point of intoxication.) "Drink spiking"is when an intoxicating substance is added to a drink for amusement or malicious intent (robbery, battery, sexual assault etc). The concept is not new. For centuries, alcohol has incapacitated individuals and lowered inhibitions.

In-gestation of such substances can be voluntary or involuntary. The most common substances are alcohol, benodiazepines (flunitrazepam, midazolam, temazepam or rohupnol) and GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid). Alcohol remains the most common substance used in large part because of its availability and acceptability. Furthermore, most victims willing consume the alcohol. However, even if an intoxicated victim agrees to sex, it can still be considered "rape" due to the lack of ability to consent. A limited example would be having sex with someone who has passed out. Respiratory depression, coma and even death are real possibilities when someone ingests a date rape drug, especially if mixed with alcohol. In the case of LS we have no real evidence other than she was at a bar drinking alcohol and her movements on video which apparently depict her conduct. Despite the limited evidence, it appears to be a safe assumption that she was intoxicated. But to what extent?

Update 7-18-11: Harley Ride for Lauren is scheduled for 7-30-11. Here is our issue Nancy Grace: For weeks Legal Pub has suggested a search of the landfill. Officer Parker back on 6-10-11 said dumpsters and landfills were searched.

http://www.thedailygreenburgh.com/neighbors/spierer-case-appear-americas-most-wantedNow BPD is aparently admitting that land fills were never searched. http://www.heraldtimesonline.com/stories/2011/07/16/news.qp-0661144.stoThe Sycamore Ridge Landfill is the final destination for all Indiana University and Bloomingonton Indiana trash. Garbage is mixed with garbage from other destinations; however, the location of each day's dump can be located through GPS. Talk about a story on credibility. Why are you scared to get your hands dirty, CNN? (Finally 8-15-11 Nancy Graces Blog starts to get interested...)Update 7-20-11: Many responses have been offered concerning the land fill controversy. One supporter of the BPD pointed out that on 6-18 a massive search was conducted in Martinsville based on a tip. LINK. Furthermore, if there is any truth to the growing rumor that the 4:15 a.m. call may not have originated in Bloomington, then there may be rhyme to their reasoning. Police are not corroborating any rumor, but if the origin of the call was traced to a place other than Bloomington, then the failure to immediately search the Pimento landfill may be justified. Keep in mind that at this point it is only unsubstantiated rumor. Visit this Facebook to help keep attention on Lauren: LINK.

Update 7-21-11: Most missing people don't generate a great deal of media coverage. LINK. So what? This one did. So what is the media going to do to help find Lauren? One word of advice, try to be a leader and not a follower! Go interview the cell phone provider. Get a quote for exactly how much the search of the landfill will cost. Do it today!

Mrs. Spierer speaks: An open letter from Mrs. Spierer may be found here: LINK.
Jessie Wolff speaks: A reporter from Journal News has apparently decided to step out of the shadows of the followers and has tried to contact JW. Wolff finally responded today via Facebook, urging "Leave me alone please." Wolff added, "I spoke with the detectives Tuesday and have taken a polygraph. All my cards are out on the table ..." According to this article, when asked whether police administered the polygraph, and for the results, Wolff replied, "what the (expletive) do you think the results were? if i failed a polygraph everyone in the world would know ...." LINK.

Update 7-26-11: A break in the case or another distraction? Six blocks away from where Lauren Spierer disappeared, Meredith Ephlin, an IU student, reports that a man attempted to strangle her. The 34 year old woman was apparently walking to a convenience store near 17th and Woodburn when she was attacked. At the current time, law enforcement is downplaying any possible relationship to the Spierer disappearance. LINK.

Update 8-3-11: A search warrant has been executed to search the Republic Sycamore Ridge Landfill on East Cottom in Pimento (near Terre Haute, IN.) A section of the landfill has been roped off as the area where trash was dumped from Bloomington. The excavation and search of the site will be under the direct supervision of the FBI. LINK.

Update 8-12-11: So far, nothing more than persistant rumors. There are unconfirmed rumors that a security guard was in the vicinity of 11th and College around 4:30 a.m. If true, what the security guard saw or what he did not see, may be very helpful in confirming or refuting the story of JR. Another rumor that just won't die is that some people are hiding the identity of a person with major drug connections. Fact is, for now they are just unconfirmed rumors. Come fall, when the vegetation dies and crops are harvested, there will be fewer locations for the "rumors" to hide.

Update 8-16-11: The roar of the huge backhoes couldn't be ignored. The landfill search began early this morning under the direction of the FBI and Bloomington Police Department. As of noon they were still digging and we have been informed that the search may last up to two weeks. No one is allowed to get too close as the fumes are apparently toxic.

Update 8-17-11: Trash search video: LINK. Police chief was on the scene today. (See comments.) Lauren's parents to leave and go back to New York for a "family function." Speculation is rising... Now may be the time for any POI to make a deal...

Update 8-22-11: Police have completed one week of trash scrutiny. The 12 hour shifts should end within the next 7 days. So far, no report of any evidence found.
Update 8-24-11: Video criticism of CR and other so called "friends" of Lauren Spierer. LINK

Update 8-27-11: The almighty roar of the equipment came to an end on Friday. The search is now officially over."The fact that no evidence related to this case was discovered is unfortunate, but we are confident that the proper area at the landfill was identified and thoroughly checked by the officers working there," said Chief Michael Diekhoff. Some two dozen police, FBI agents and an expert from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children searched the 8,400-square-foot area of the landfill.

Update 8-29-11: School started at IU. Another search on Sunday was unsuccessful. Quotes of interest: "It was the worst news I could have gotten. It's just, there are no words to describe it, hearing that your best friend is missing...We're still finding her, and I'm still as determined as I was the minute I heard it that we're going to find her. I'm never going to give up," said IU student Blair Wallach.

Update 8-30-11: Jay Rosenbaum claims that he has talked to Lauren's parents privately. Video LINK. I wonder if Lauren's mom or dad would verify such a conversation?
Lauren Spierer's Mom tells FOX59 "I have not spoken with Jay Rosenbaum. I was surprised to hear his comment. Jay says he speaks to parents." LINK.

Update 9-5-11: Mrs. Spierer has sent an open letter to her daughter's abductor:

"If you think for a minute, her father and I are going to disappear, think again. We are just as determined today as we were day one," Charlene Spierer writes. "Do you think this is a game? This is no game. We are in this for the long haul ... we will NEVER give up."
Latest statments of Hadar Tamir:

"When we had to move out and saw her room so empty, we just sat on the floor crying... It was completely surreal... We went home for the summer and came back, and nothing has changed, really." LINK

September 14, 2011: The body found in a wooded area of Jennings County in southern Indiana is not Lauren Spierer. Capt. Joe Qualters confirmed that the body found does not match Lauren's description.
September 19, 2011: Rob and Charlene Spierer, remain in Bloomington to prepare for a Sept. 22 concert and walk to bring attention to search and investigation efforts.

September 28, 2011: Can you say "You don't pull the mask off the old Long Ranger and you don't mess around with slim? Dietl & Associates, private investigators, are apparently not licensed in the state of Indiana according to the state Attorney General's Office. A firm representative appearance on a Fox morning show where he made fun of Bloomington Police Chief Michael Diekhoff. Now expect the private detectives to be barred from participating further in the Lauren Spierer case.

October 10, 2011: Legal Pub had a presence today in Bloomington. This is what we have learned about the body found in Bloomington, Illinois: Badly decomposed white female. NOT LOCAL. Coroner awaiting dental and DNA confirmation of identiy. Based on missing person's report she has an idea who it may be. (She is not giving any further information until DNA and dental records confirm her hunch.) While the body was found far from Bloomington, Indiana, anything is possible...

October 12, 2011: Still no official word on the identity of the remains found. Names like Kathy Christensen from North Chicago, who has been missing since April, Bonnie Woodward who has been missing since June, 2010, Stacy Peterson who has been missing forever and Lauren Spierer who has been missing since June have been tossed around. In the meantime there are reports out of Bloomington, Indiana that it does not appear to be Lauren. However, we will wait for the official DNA results.
October 13, 2011: McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling said that Jean L. Kelly of Minier was identified through dental records. Kelly had been missing since early September. Cause of death and toxicology are pending.

October 24, 2011: Mrs. Spierer posted on a blog that she was hurt by an anonymous letter sent to her complaining that her search posters are "littering Bloomington."

November 3, 2011: Jay Rosenbaum, in the presence of own of his attorneys, has met with Mr. and Mrs. Spierer and their attorney on September 19, 2011. Rosenbaum also met with the Spierer family's investigator, Bo Dietl, on Sept. 21. Jay subsequently reported to the Journal News: "Yes, I have cooperated since day one, and I will continue to cooperate... And I had nothing to do with the disappearance of Lauren. Obviously, there's nothing more that I want than for Lauren to be found and safe, and for this all to be over." Attorney Lukemeyer said she "... felt compelled to defend her client now because he continues to face heavy scrutiny."

January 7, 2012: Bill Warner's blog questions whether the disappearance of six petite females, Crystal Hall, Paige Johnson, Holly Bobo, Lauren Spierer, Katelyn Markham and Karen Swift are all related... LINK.

January 20, 2012: Lauren's parents have enlisted the help of New York detectives. The Spierer's apparently feel comfortable eliminating some person's of interest. Those cooperating apparently include J.W., J.R., and M.B. Others may also be cooperating. LINK.

February 27, 2012: Lauren's family has increased the amount of reward money offered for information leading to her discovery $100,000 to $250,000. Family blog: blog site.

May 1, 2012: As the anniversary date of Lauren Spierer's disappearance approaches, the  "deafening silence" makes it look more and more like a random abduction. After all, what college kids could keep their mouths shut this long if they were actually involved?  One would suspect, not many. The tip lines are still open and the reward money is still available.

May 15, 2012: As "find Lauren" posters are being made for the upcoming anniversary of Lauren's disappearance, it sometimes appears that police are grasping at straws. Police are reportedly looking at William Clyde Gibson, a man who is suspected in the deaths of three women more than 100 miles away from the Bloomington according to the Journal News.  (William Clyde Gibson is charged with the 2002 murder of 45-year-old Karen Hodella and the murder of 75-year-old Christine Whitis. He is also suspected of murder with regards to another woman found buried in his backyard.)  At this time; however, there are no specific leads that indicate Gibson may have been involved in Lauren's disappearance.

May 29, 2012: Lauren Spierer's disappearance ha no connection to the disappearance of Mickey Shunick, the University of Louisina student that disappeared May 19, 2012.  Capt. Joe Qualters told the press: “Any reports of a ‘connection’ have been manufactured by the media and was never put forth by us... I simply indicated to a media person that we’d made an ‘inquiry’— a seemingly appropriate thing to do — and that was turned into us contacting them because of ‘similarities’ which is inaccurate.. Nothing of significance to the Spierer investigation came from the discussion held with police investigators in Louisiana.”

August 13, 2012:  A fisherman found a skull in  Marion County.  Speculation was that it could be Lauren.  It was not her. It wasn't covered here because it was unwarranted speculation. If something credible happens, we will cover it.

August 20, 2012:  Still nothingThe armed man who claimed he met Lauren Spierer at a shooting range was not arrested.  He had been surveilling Killroys. No crime was committed.  His name was not released. The 56-year-old man had two guns on him and a shotgun in the trunk. The man wasn’t believed to be involved in Lauren's disappearance.

December 10, 2012:  As the holidays approach, the frustration of family increases with the current stalemate known as "The Lauren Spierer Investigation."  Lauren's parents do not believe their daughter’s disappearance was a “random abduction.” They have publicly criticized Lauren's male friends who were the last to see her before she vanished. “We have these boys that were there that night that clammed up, shut down, lawyered up,” Robert Spierer, said  on “Katie.”  Lauren Spierer's parents continue to offer a $250,000 reward.

February 11, 2013:  Despite months of searching, still no sign of Lauren Spierer.  There have been no arrests and no suspects named.  CBS New York, claims that police have received more than 2,400 tips in the case. Nevertheless, no end is in sight. Perhaps warm weather will lead to a well deserved resolution to this tragedy.

February 3, 2016:  Has the trail become warm or is it still cold?  It depends who you consult. The Bloomington Herald-Times documented a recent search warrant search on Doug Wager's property.  His son Justin Wagers was thought to be the target of that search. Doug Wagers, told the newspaper that police spent four to six hours searching the family property in Trafalgar as well as the family residence. Doug Wagers said he told investigators to search, and search hard, because his son, Justin, is innocent.
“The system got a hold of him and the only thing he did wrong was indecent exposure," Doug Wagers explained. Mean while, Justin Wagers, who has a history of public indecency arrests, is currently being held in the Johnson County Jail on charges of public indecency and performing sexual conduct in the presence of a minor.  This does not, of course, mean that he had anything to do with Lauren Spierer's disappearance.  As always, Wagers is to be presumed innocent unless otherwise convicted in a court of law.

June 9, 2016:  Brad Garrett and some private consultants working with Spierer's family are still trying to figure out what happened to Lauren who disappeared from Bloomington, Indiana in 2011.

Beautiful young lady. Let's hope they find her soon.

She had a heart condition. Did they check the hospitals and clinics?

One of my x’s was 4’-11”, 98lbs…I use to tease her since in the state of Illinois people under 5’-0” are considered a midget, use to tell her she should get the state to help her pay to have her door knobs lowered….I don’t think people realize just how tiny this missing girl is. In my younger days the concrete foundation forms I use to hump weighed 90-100lbs and we use to throw them up on our shoulders and walk down an 8” wall in the dead of winter with 40lbs of cloths and boots on, all day long…no problem! Very easy for someone to pick this tiny girl up and toss her into a vehicle…especially if she was intoxicated.

What I found interesting was the posts of locals from your link. People talk about others that have gone missing and other problems…WTF
This was one of the posts:
(wow.. sorry Yes she would have had to go South, but i honestly make that walk all the time and there are shady looking characters along that stretch... idk what the city could do about that, but they should do something)

Another post refers to a guy that got jumped in that area about a block away from where this girl went missing. It appears that there are peoples stalking that area after the Bars close with bad intentions and know where the cameras are. And apparently this girl was unaware of the dangers there.

Anon 7:28 AM: As for checking the hospitals, I'm sure that was the first thing they did, and the parents prob made the phone calls before they traveled from NY on Sat.

good point v.g. that small of a person would be easy to physically overcome and just as easy to hide.

There is a report that her keys were found a block away from where she was last seen. No other traces of the missing girl have been found.

(There is a report that her keys were found a block away from where she was last seen. No other traces of the missing girl have been found.)

This is not a good sign considering the time she has been missing...don't expect a happy ending to this.

WTF is wrong with people, can't anybody walk the streets now days without worrying about being abducted??

Update 6-8-11: Still not much more information on Lauren. However, in Arizona a somewhat similar abduction may have taken place. Kristian Faith Ward, an 18-year-old model and mother has been missing since late last month. Ward (aka Kristian Faith Stout), was last seen walking away from the Paradise Valley Mall in Phoenix on May 27. Phoenix Police Department. Ward apparently picked up her check at the mall and then subsequently disappeared without a trace.

I suspect it was someone who knew her or at least knew her routine. How common was it for her to walk home in the early morning hours from the bar?

Legal Pub said...

Update 6-9-11: In today's age of video surveillance, the chances of getting caught have increased several fold.

He and Lauren were seen on videotape returning to her residence about 2:30 a.m. They then left the building about 10 minutes later. Lauren was helping Rossman home at that point because Rossman had been punched. The couple went to Rossman's building complex. Lauren apparently visited two apartments at the complex. There was apparently another “confrontation” that morning at Rossman’s building.

Spierer was last seen rounding a corner on her way back to her apartment — a half mile away — at about 4:15 a.m. Rossman was apparently not the last one to see Spierer that morning. Three or four others saw her after she left Rossman.

Video footage from security cameras at Lauren’s apartment building suggest that she had argued with several men that morning. One can expect police will get to the bottom of this matter in the immediate future.

How about the bar that served the girl. She was only 20.

Excise Police are investigating Kilroy's Sports Bar in connection with serving Spierer, who is underage. Spierer and friends were at the bar several hours before she disappeared.

Police indicate that a purse found between Spierer's apartment building and another building she visited that night did not belong to Lauren.

The purse apparently belonged to a victim of an unrelated homicide!

Lauren grew up in Manhattan... Indiana had a similar abduction 10 years ago, the purse didnt belong to lauren, it belonged to a homicide victim and there are 17 registered sex offenders all within walking distance of Kilroys?? Im sending my daughters to college in Manhattan.... and steering clear of the not so great midwest..

Crime rate in Bloomington is pretty darn low! This appears to me to be a case of jeolousy... I suspect the police are close to solving the mystery. We are actually brighter than you think here in the midwest.

Video Guy said...

(The purse apparently belonged to a victim of an unrelated homicide!)

I wonder if this is about the missing girl they spoke about at the newspaper you linked to...

Why the fight? was this guy sticking up for Lauren from a group of guys harassing her?
Was it an x-boyfriend jealous of this guy with her?

They'll figure this one out, but what about the girl who once owned the purse? It does seem like someone is stalking women in that immediate area...is it in the dorm area?

Video Guy said...

Anomy 1:45 PM
So you are saying this could be a jealous boyfriend involved?
What about the purse that was found? Who was that girl and how long has she been missing?

Legal Pub said...

Afternoon update: The noose of suspicion may be tightening. Crystal Grubb disappeared last September in Bloomington. Crystal's body was found after 13 days in a cornfield just outside of Bloomington. Her homicide remains unsolved; however, information has leaked out that her purse may have been found near one of the apartment buildings in question. If that is true, there may be link between the Crystal's murder and Lauren's disappearance.

Anonymous said...

Crystal Grubb had two children and was poor. She went missing last September but there were no major search parties for her.

Crystal was also seen late at night with friends in Bloomington. 13 days later her decomposing body was found by a farmer in a cornfield. Her murder remains unsolved.

(The search for Kristian Faith Ward from Phoenix, Ariz., has ended with the young woman's safe recovery, according to her father. Her father said,"This is a matter of family privacy and we thank you for all of your concern and prayers." Let's all pray that the search for Lauren Spierer ends in a similar result.)

Rossman's attorney, Carl Salzmann, primarily handles Criminal and Civil cases in Central and Southern Indiana.

His 25+ years in legal practice include 6 years as a Deputy Prosecutor and 12 years as the elected Prosecutor. My bet is he knows what he is doing by talking to the press.

Better hope so.

In the mean time, it has also been reported that Rossman's car, credit card and cell phone have been examined by the police for possible information. Police continue to say that Lauren was not herself involved in the altercation with the other men and that there is not much new to report.

I'd say this young man may be a person of interest...

Ok, let me get this straight. Crystal Grubb who was found murdered in Sept., purse was found when they were looking for Lauren Spierer by retracing her movements that night. I did read at the newspaper link that a guy was jumped in that same area, or abouts. Apparently this is not a safe area to be in late at night and there very well may be a serial rapist/murder working the area as well. He could be robbing people as well but doubt he would jump a male without help….If I’m understanding this right.

At the newspaper posts they also spoke about a girl that is still missing from the Bloomington area. Wonder what this one is about or if they were referring to Crystal Grubb.

Update 6-10-11: More information leaking out about the altercation. It occurred in the fifth floor lobby of Spierer's apartment. Apparently, Rossman was punched in the face by a friend of Spierer's boyfriend. Spierer's boyfriend has supposedly been identified as Jesse Wolff. Rossman and Spierer then apparently returned to Rossman's apartment. At some point Rossman was allegedly put to bed by his roommate. Spierer apparently then started walking home around 4:30 a.m.

Both Spierer and Rossman had been charged with misdemeanor drinking offenses in the past. Both paid fines.

Rossman also paid a fine for a 2008 marijuana misdemeanor. Rossman was supposedly on a not invited list at smallwood apartments. Not sure why at this point.

How about the bar? Kilroy’s Sports Bar was apparently cited in 2006, 2007 and 2008, twice for selling alcohol to minors and once for serving alcoholic beverages to an already intoxicated patron.

I wonder why Spierer's boyfriend, Jesse Wolff’s friend punched Rossman? Could be a number of reasons since it appears they all knew each other, but wondering if Spierer and Wolff broke up and they blamed Rossman. I’m thinking that Spierer and Rossman were not dating as she would than have just crashed at his place and not tried to walk home at 4:00 AM in the morning while intoxicated...Glad the suspect she may still be alive, they must know more to say that.

There some mean comments being said on the Internet about this case, one said: “So some cute blond drunk college girl goes missing, CALL OUT THE FIGHTER JETS!!”

The purse found is not her's from another homicide?

I hope they are looking in to this...at least seems wierd to me a random purse shows up from the west side...

Maybe I read this completely wrong,

Reminds me of the Jill Behrman case where the 19-year girl disappeared in May 2000 while on a bike ride near Bloomington. Jill Behrman's skeletal remains were discovered three years later in a remote field about 15 miles from Bloomington. John R. Myers II was sentenced to 65 years in prison for her death; however, he now denies being the killer.

Crystal Grubb was also involved in a fight right before she dissapeared, then they find her purse close to where lauren dissapears...

Something just does not seem right.

I'm leaning toward the boyfriend now or more like ex-boyfriend. And to me, there is no one better to judge a man's character than another man (which I am). I could care less what these females think of Spierer's boyfriend, I've heard it all (oh, he would NEVER do that...)...yeah right. Sounds to me like it was more like Ex-boyfriend because no way does a boyfriend allow his girl to go off at 2:30 am to another guy's apt. And from what I've read, it sounds like Wolff and his friends or someone in that camp, followed her to Rossman's.

Jill Behrman goes missing in 05-2000 and is found in a farm field 3 years later, her killer denies guilt.
Crystal Grubb goes missing in 09-2010 and is found in a farm field 13 days later.

How close were these two fields to each other?
I don’t think the two are related besides the fact they were killed by urban assailants who thought the rural location a good place to dispose of a body. Though it is unusual that Crystal’s purse was found near where Lauren traveled that night before she disappeared.

I followed everything I could on Crystal Grubb murder and now this new "missing" student. My gut tells me these cases are related; I am wondering if the Behrman case, in which someone was convicted, was completely solved? At the time, I always thought the facts never added up and that an accomplice had to have been involved at some point during the crime.

Anyway...this is just the ramblings of an old reporter.)

Boy this Jill Behrman case sounds fu*ked up, if anyone deserves a new trial it is this guy John Myers.
Quote:
(Concerns also arose over juror conduct during the trial. Jurors were allowed to drink alcoholic beverages, access to cell phones and televisions and conducted themselves in a manner described by one juror as a "fraternity party like" atmosphere. Despite the lack of evidence, the jury returned a guilty verdict in less than one hour. Myers is currently appealing the verdict to the Indiana State Supreme Court.)

Reading the entire court transcripts for the Jill Behrman case, on page 1400 of over 2900…”Engaging”
My reason is to see what evidence they have on John Myers and if any similarities to the other cases mentioned here.
I don’t think it has any bearing on Lauren’s case at his time, but it is of interest to know that Jill’s bike route that day she went missing passed within blocks of where Lauren was last seen on video. It is a place where the state police scent dog lost her scent.
BUT ! They were backtracking from the location NW of this area where Jill’s bike was found, so they had scent from this location up to where her bike was found.

Update 6-13-11: While the T.V. show generated tips, still no Lauren. The family has set up a website: www.findlauren.com. In the meantime, those of us experienced with searches for the truth think the police can do more. Specifically, let the public know the identity of the man in the alley captured on surveillance! See the following quote: "Surveillance video also shows Lauren in an alley walking with an acquaintance on the morning she disappeared. The alley is the same place where her keys and coin purse were found by authorities." Supply the name of he man and let's see what the public knows about his whereabouts during he first 12 hours after her disappearance.

Legal Pub said...

In the meantime, here is what those of us at Legal Pub think may have happened: Rossman apparently joined Spierer at Kilroy's Sports Bar where she left behind her shoes and cell phone. Spierer and Corey Rossman (who lives at 5 North Townhomes) walked to Lauren's apartment complex around 2:30 a.m. Rossman was apparently punched during a confrontation in the 5th floor elevator lobby of Spierer's apartment building at approximately 2:45 a.m. (The confrontation apparently involved a group of friends of Spierer's boyfriend, Jesse Wolff. Rossman apparently has no memory of the fight.)

Spierer then apparently walked Rossman home. Rossman's roommate, Mike Beth, claims he put Rossman to bed. Spierer apparently left Rossman's apartment to visit Jay Rosenbaum, a mutual friend, two doors down. Rosenbaum reportedly told police Spierer left at approximately 4:30 a.m. to walk home. Rosenbaum apparently last saw her near 11th Street and College Avenue.

Persons of interest have legal representation. Rosenbaum is represented by attorney James Voyles. Wolff is being represented by Larry Lozano. There are 10 persons of interest. Wolff, is reported to have spent the evening watching basketball and unsuccessfully attempting to reach Spierer. All person's of interest are to be presumed innocent!

Video Guy said...

"Wolff, is reported to have spent the evening watching basketball"

To bad this is not a good alibi unless he has a witness to this. And giving a recap of the game is not proof in this day and age of recording and watching at another time.
He very well may have been home in bed a 4:30 AM, but it also must be considered that his friend seen Lauren and the other guy and called him to let him know the situation. He could have got dressed and went to look for them at 4:00 AM...came across her and and argument pursued.

His actions the following day are important here.

Video Guy said...

I approach the reading of the Jill Behrman transcript that the accused was probably innocent and a justice error...maybe in a hurry to solve this case.

I'm only 3/4 through this transcript and I have changed my opinion drastically. He had good representation, a fair judge and much evidence against him, though circumstantial. They jury is alert and paying attention, given the opportunity to ask questions to every witness after cross, and they ask good ones. Some are designed the emote a response from the accused, so they are watching him intently.

The biggest damage to him at this point is his immediate family. They are evasive, combative and almost hostile. Not wishing to help with facts to clear him but to avoid any answer.

Much evidence as to his character has been left out or the jury prob would have convicted him in 15min instead of an hour. I myself would have wished to go over evidence much more thoroughly had I been on this jury...not wishing to make a mistake.

His actions after the crime are exactly what the FBI profilers tell LE to watch for in such a case. Also, it was his own mouth in the years after that caused LE to investigate him.

Totally engaging, I can't stop reading it and follow up with comparing maps with locations and other information on the Internet.

A motion in limine is a pretrial motion to exclude certain evidence. Once a motion in limine is granted outside the presence of the jury, the evidence may not be mentioned in front of the jury without obtaining specific permission.

Persistent rumors that Spierer may have used cocaine that night. Not good to mix alcohol and cocaine especially if you have a heart condition. Could friends have panicked when Lauren overdosed and disposed of the body?

At this point it is just a rumor.

So there was video of her going in to the friends apartment, but nothing coming out?

Anonymous said...

I'm pretty sure I know what happened now. Everyone is lying: Rossman, Hadar Tamir, Wolff, and Rosenbaum. They dont' want you to know that Wolff and Rossman are friends. I think Rossman went with Spierer to the apt. Spierer died at Rossman or Rosenbaum's apt. Wolff was either already there or they called Wolff once she died. Wolff gets there. They all panic and they take her somewhere and dispose of her. The reason why I think Wolff was involved in the disposal is because of his suspicious activities that morning. That morning, he calls Hadar Tamir to get the keys to her apt. I believe he wanted the keys to clean up the remaining drugs in the apt because he was about to go to the police and wanted all the evidence cleaned up. Wolff could have just called Spierer's apt and found out whether she was there. He didn't need the keys. Instead of Wolff calling Rossman to find out what happened, he goes directly to the police??? That's why I think he had something to do with it. And I believe they were all friends including Rossman And Wolff and I think they are all lying especially Hadar Tamir. You can tell she's lying on TV. And then of course, they threw her purse in the street or alley to make it look like an abduction.

when friends are involved in a situation like this there is usually an anonymous phone call to the police soon after to retrieve the body....I'm not buying it.

Besides, I though they had video of her near 11th and College??

The police are now, or should be looking at the behavior of the alleged people seen near her that night. If any of them were involved there will be a noticeable change in their behavior. I have read this in a post…“Spierer's boyfriend, Jesse Wolff, has returned to Port Washington, New York”…if this is true it of significance unless the trip was planned beforehand.
What kind of car did he drive??

This vehicle they now have on tape may be significant as well, it only takes a few seconds for a determined person to abduct another and escape the area with a vehicle. Jill Behrman was at the wrong place at the wrong time when a derange man spotted her bicycling down the road as he drove by. She was alone with no one around so he grabbed her.

You women and young girls have got to Keep your wits about you at all times, and don’t present yourself as a target…not fair but true, it only takes a second and your gone.
Why this girls friends let her walk home alone at that time is beyond comprehension…

As for the Jill Behrman case, I have finished reading the transcripts. Anyone interested in criminal law and/or such crimes needs to read them. The judge was expressing a reasonable doubt to the prosecution at sidebar right up to final argument, I was thinking the same. It was the final arguments that convicted this man and I now believe rightly so. Though I do have some issues with the scent dog and its behavior, and I still don’t see how a jury could convict him in just an hour of deliberation, I would have had to discuss things more intensely.

This case also proves that reality is far more interesting/and deranged than any fictional crime writer can come up with on their own….as to why I don’t read such books.

one can find the transcript download at Jill Behrman's wikipedia page.

I have read more about this boyfriend of Laurens leaving town and it bothers me. One would think he would stay around to find out what happened to his girl. His distance makes it harder for LE to talk to him as a suspect as well. Not saying he is guilty but I think he is acting that way by leaving town. Being his friend was involved with a confrontation with the kid that was with Lauren not long before she disappears is of extreme suspicion…their saying two of these people of interest have left town.

I have a theory but I better not post it, but I would like to add most all boyfriends would have stayed around no matter what their situation to help find their girl. And if he is a person of interest the police do not want him leaving town.

Hadar Tamir seems to like chatting with the reporters! Over the weekend and over the past two days - she has been interviewing quite a bit, it seems. She outlines an entire timeline AND adds a new person to the equation: David Rohn. The article in reference was published with Indy Star and http://www.lohud.com/article/20110614/NEWS02/106140330/Lauren-Spierer-rumor-overdose-new-details-her-night-parents-TV?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Frontpage

The article states:
"According to Tamir, Spierer's boyfriend, Jesse Wolff, had been planning to get together with her that night. But he couldn't reach her, nor she him, because she had left her phone at the bar."

Q: IN A SMALL TOWN LIKE BLOOMINGTON: WHY DID HE NOT COME OVER TO HER PLACE? If he has been dating her for two years and spent his childhood with her - This campus is so small, why wouldn't he just come over if he was planning on meeting up with her?

"He was texting her hours after her disappearance. The bar, noting that, called him that afternoon. Wolff then tracked down Tamir in class, retrieved her keys and checked her apartment for Spierer. She wasn't there."

THIS IS ALSO VERY, VERY INTERESTING - OR SUSPECT IN MY OPINION - for many, many, many reasons - I hope they find some holes in this ------- my gut says there is something wrong with this.

Ms. Tamir also mentions that Lauren's last call was to David Rohn. This has not been mentioned anywhere else, has it? AND doesn't that seem like throwing out a piece of information to try to draw the public's eye elsewhere? Whether this information is relevant or not is tricky - I'm not sure - is it? Regardless, she has leaked another piece of the puzzle to the press, hasn't she?? I wouldn't be surprised if the police ask for a gag order - can they do that?

Anyway, I just hope the Spierer family finds something out soon about the whereabouts of their dear daughter - and the persons responsible are found and prosecuted.

"He told me he watched her leave and told her, 'If you stumble then I'm going to make you come back in here.' But he watched her leave and she seemed fine so he just let her go."

Legal Pub said...

Of interest to me Tamir's comment that before leaving Rosenbaum's residence, Spierer used Rosenbaum's phone to call Rohn to see if he knew where her phone was.

So Jay Rosenbaum was actually the last person to see her that morning.

Apparently this girl Lauren was really fu*ked up, she don't even remember where she last had her phone and shoes. and if Jay Rosenbaum comment is true he was worried about her stumbling around.

I'm still concerned with the confrontation between Corey Rossman and Lauren's boyfriends friend.

Legal, so when did you go to Bloomington?
Did you participate in the search??

I feel the same way about the boyfriend leaving town. I cannot believe for one second, that if they had the connection that they did, that he would leave and not be tearing bloomington apart looking for her. It is really sad to think that he is sitting somewhere in New York not lifting a darn finger when his girlfriend could still (possibly) be alive and struggling to fight for that. As for the drug rumors, I do not think that anyone should say anything negative about this young lady until she is found and proof can be brought to light. Especially for her parent's sake. I am a mother and could not for one second be okay with the rumors that are flying around regarding Lauren that night. She is 20 years old, away from home, and with friends. Of course she is going to drink and have a good time. I don't know if anyone else has ever been in college and visited IU, but I have and it is a constant party...therefore she wasn't doing anything that the rest of the student body is not guilty of. The last thing is that I find it interesting that Lauren's "closest friends" and boyfriend are all saying that they "stayed in" the night of the disappearance??? Doesn't really add up!

Legal Pub said...

Finally photos of the white pickup truck and of Lauren at the apartment have been released. See top of page. We still need photos of the last confirmed sighting.

Video Guy said...

In regards to the rumor that Lauren may have OD’ed. I have just spent the weekend (and then some) reading the entire court transcript of the Jill Behrman case. It just so happens that the defense of John R. Myers II suggested that she (Jill) had OD’ed and her body dumped in the woods in a rural location.
The expert witness for the prosecution (I think a FBI guy, can’t remember) said: “That is not the way we find bodies of people that OD and than have been dumped, they are usually found in ally ways and dumpsters, places where they will be discovered quickly. And most always, the people involved, friends or whoever, make an anonymous phone call to the police where the body is so it will be discovered.”

This did not happen with Lauren so I’m going with the FBI expert and their statistics and say, the rumor that Lauren OD’ed is just that, a rumor and probably untrue.

Video Guy said...

Legal, is the photo of Lauren at her apt lobby or at the Rossman apt complex…?? If I remember correctly it was a surveillance camera that caught Rossman and Lauren walking together outdoors as the last image of her…is that correct?

Video Guy said...

As for the white truck, I’m sure it was caught on surveillance video at other locations in town. What the police are now doing is looking at surveillance video from locations in a small radius of where this one was taken, and working their outward. This will take a lot of man hours but I’m confidant they will track it to an aprox location in town or if it left town. Than concentrating their search in those areas the truck was last seen. And if someone recognizes it, they will have someone to question. Looks like it has a rear bed full of trash, or could be a tarp.

Stuart said...

A lot of things are bothering me.

First, why would Wolff need a key to see if she was at home? Couldn't he just knock and see if she came to the door? Wouldn't he at least try that first?

Second, why are all of Spierer's 'friends' leaving town instead of helping search?

Why doesn't Tamir have more to say about the dynamics of the group involved?

Finally, I know it is always suspicious when people lawyer up, but let's not forget the Duke Lacrosse case.

Anonymous said...

First L.P. Great job of complying information. Second, I agree that the police delay in releasing photos of the truck and what lauren was wearing have hindered a recovery. Too often it seems they are more interested in prosecution and preserving evidence then finding the victim right away.

Finally, thanks for distinguishing rumors from facts and your genuine concern for this young woman.

Tamir said two friends — Sara and Amanda Roude fill out a missing person's report about Lauren for the local police.

Wolff apparently was the one who called Spierer's parents.

stukyle said...

Where is Tamir getting all of her information? She seems to know a whole lot for someone who wasn't present for any of the events.

Anonymous said...

Stu: She apparently knows everyone involved. Rossman apparently met Lauren and Tamir at the Indianapolis 500. Both Tamir and Lauren have known Rossman since froshman year. Wolff has been Laurens boyfriend the whole time she has been at IU. So suffice it to say, Tamir likely knows what she is talking about.

What we don't know is whether any of the person's of interest had access to a white crew cab chevy pickup. Has anyone asked Tamir?

Lauren may or may not have something to do with the truck but by the cops witholding the last photo of Lauren, my bet is it does. Find the truck, find the answer.

Im no criminal expert or anything, but shouldn't they start searching further out than bloomington? Since the other ladies that were taken were found in morgan co. I would have thought they would be looking there as well. (and I'm pretty sure they were both found in cornfields) I guess I would want them to start going further and further away from the middle of town since they are not finding anything there. Also, about her roommate and "friends" they are all going home and not continuing to help... Seems fishy to me!

Police released their timeline and it looks close to L.P. who posted it first. However, I do wonder where she was from 12:30 to 1:46.

1:46 a.m. — Enters Kilroy’s Sports Bar.
2:27 a.m. — Exits Kilroy’s
2:48 a.m. — Enters a North/South alley between 10th and College Apartments and 10th and College Village.
2:51 a.m. — Exits the alley, heading toward an empty lot north of 10th & College Village Apartments.
4:30 a.m. — Last seen at 11th and College Ave.

Who walks alleys that late at night?

Anonymous said...

I see four possible scenarios:

1. Jealous boyfriend or boyfriends buddies get angry and lose control...

2. OD cover up (But no evidence of anything other than alcohol ingestion to date.)

3. Random killer, possibly driver of white truck sees her and abducts her.

4. Lauren was so intoxicated that she got lost and fell into a sewer or construction site and has yet to be discovered. (unlikely given all of the searches.)

stukyle said...

My biggest problem with the OD cover-up is that it doesn't make sense from the point of view of the cover-uppers. When is the last time you saw a story in the news about a college girl that overdosed and died? Missing persons stories attract a lot more attention. The reason to hide her body would be if there were some kind of evidence that would get the guys in trouble. Also, there is no evidence at all that this had anything to do with cocaine.
If we are going to theorize about something she ingested that would cause the guys to hide her body, I think rohypnol makes more sense than cocaine, however, there is no good reason to suspect that happened in this case.
That is why I think it was either an abduction or something more sinister than an OD.
Comments?

Anonymous said...

stu: tend to agree with you. but if the person doing the cover up gave her the cocaine etc., they could have feared prosecution as a dealer or even for involuntary manslaughter. Only the body will tell us if she had any drug in gestation.

Jealous lover or random abductor make more sense to me.

FBI is working on it as you type. Won't be long before you have some answers...

and don't assume someone has not come forward to say, hey that's my truck. The public only knows what the police let them know.

Just watched WishTV news on the internet and they are showing a new picture of the truck that apparently someone from the IndyStar took. It appears to be the same truck that was seen on the cameras. I really hope they get this "truck" situation figured out soon!
Also, as I was re-looking at the pictures of the truck taken on the night of the disappearance, it seems that there is a person sitting against the cab of the truck with their knees bent up and arms on their knees. Does anyone else see this in the blurred image. It is almost as if the person is wearing a white shirt and black pants as well!

legal pub has the two best shots of the truck available to the public.

many claim they see a girl in the back. It may just be wishful thinking...

IDK…awfully dumb to commit any crime let alone an abduction with a logo on your vehicle. Might as well have a neon sign flashing, LOOK AT ME ! HERE I AM !!

One thing we can now assume safely, and that is that the truck belongs to a local.

Ok…in the second pic of the truck that LP up loaded, there appears to be a thin dark outline of a handle visible in the bed. The type of handle one would see on a lawnmower or a device like that. Some construction equipment have handles like that as well, a small earth/gravel compactor comes to mind.

I thought that as well upon my first look, but after further inspection one can see the lights and shadows are deceiving…there is something back there, but not a person.

I'm sure they have walked those ally ways many times and felt safe there.

...as far as the boyfriend and other friends leaving town...
I believe it's because in a missing person case, any 'persons of interest' are not allowed to (or at least advised not to) participate in the search.  If they were to find the body/missing person, it may cast more suspicion upon him(her) whether he(she) be guilty or not....
Although, I think I would still stay in town, if I still had my apartment.  But, since it's the summer, perhaps the BF and friends had already finalized leases, etc... (I have no idea, just speculating, as I find no mention about it at all.)  Also, if they were to stay while unable to help in the search, they'd no doubt be hounded by the press for statements and interviews, so their respective lawyers most likely advised them to leave town.
So it may or may not have been a personal decision to leave.
And as someone mentioned earlier... I was also thinking about the Duke Lacrosse guys.... completely different scenario, but shameful police work.

Anyway,  I wonder if Tamir is able to actively assist in the search?  Another poster here mentioned the police are probably wanting her to shut up....  it's also possible they WANT to her to babble on... it may be leading the guilty one(s) into a false sense of security....?

At first I was thinking that maybe one of the guys tried to take advantage of a cute, passed-out Lauren, only to have her die of her heart condition during the assault, and then him freaking-out and dumping her body somewhere in a lake -- rather than in a dumpster close by -- not wanting it to be found at all (and especially not 'quickly',) as there would be his DNA on the body....
and he is too ashamed to admit to being a pervert, so he is not coming forward, even with the pleas of her family.

But after hearing of the scuffles, I also can't shake the feeling of it perhaps turning out to be the enraged, jealous boyfriend scenario.

But it still could've been an unknown creep with opportune timing.

And I agree, I'm sure she had walked that alleyway numerous times before, even in the middle of the night after partying, so of course she felt safe. Complacency is dangerous; especially for an inebriated, tiny, cute girl.

However, I am keeping in mind that although someone said she left, alive and well, to walk home, it doesn't necessarily mean it was an actual event.

Poor Lauren. Whatever happened, this is terrible.
Poor Lauren's Mom, Dad, Sister, and all her family.

She looks so cute walking down the hallway, smiling. I noticed the legs of a woman behind her; (on another site, the picture shows the legs and skirt more clearly) I guess Lauren had just 'exchanged pleasantries' with her as she passed by, and was still smiling...

p.s.   @ stuart--

It's possible Wolff did go knock on the door first...
we don't know that he didn't, since bits and pieces are often left out.
But, yes, that's a good point.  If he did go straight to Tamir first to get a key, then you're right, that would be a bit odd and rather suspect.
I assume he's already given police his full statement, and it says in there all what he did...
wish we could read it...

I haven't seen one single thing about any formal statement Jesse Wolff has made...
but I guess his lawyer is preventing it...

Update 6-17-11: Police are following up on leads concerning the white Colorado or Silverado truck in the photos. An acquaintance, Robert Jensen Schwander is charged with "Open Murder."

Comments:

Lawyers typically advise clients to leave town, stay away from press, refrain from making statements.Nothing real unusual here.

Not participating in the search is advisable. No reason to put one's DNA at the scene when you are a person of interest.

Students don't usually pee in these alleys. These alleys are in the center of town. Students do cut through these alleys, but still not a great idea at 4:00 am.

Time Line: Whether the truck has anything to do with it depends upon how accurate the reports are that Rosenbaum last saw Lauren at 4:30 am. I believe the truck is seen around 4:15 to 4:20 ASSUMING the time stamp on the surveillance is accurate, (Knowing surveillance, I know that not all time stamps are accurate.)

Yes, women and men should be aware of their surroundings and try not to put themselves alone in high risk situations. That being said, Lauren probably wasn't doing much different then what scores of IU students do on a fairly regular basis.

Looks like a truck of workers who do light construction/ painting of appartments in Bloomington during the summer.

Could also be lawn service.

Im not sure whether I trust the cameras less or the individual who says he watched her leave. To me, this is all just a statement that he has made and who knows if he knew exactly what time it was or not. I do not know many people who can tell you what they were doing at every exact moment of every day. I am also just still confused about why they would let her walk away knowing she had a few blocks walk alone. She was a small girl and if they really cared they would have helped her home...that is, if she really even left there the way that they say she did.

(However, I am keeping in mind that although someone said she left, alive and well, to walk home, it doesn't necessarily mean it was an actual event.)

True, all we have is Jay Rosenbaum and his statement that he last seen her at 11th and College, apparently he was actually the last person to see her that morning. He also said he was concerned because she was stumbling around and asked her to stay at his place. When she refuses he lets her stumble away down the road.

If he was really buzzed as well I can see him not wanting to leave his place and probably thought she be safe, and being that he offered and she refused…he could not make her stay. He is probably dealing with much guilt right now for not walking her home.

Now, if something fishy happened with this guy, do you not think the police would now know what vehicle he drives?
Would this vehicle not show up on surveillance video too?
How long would he wait to dispose of her body if such a scenario took place?
He lived in an Apt Building, not an easy place to be lugging a body around without someone noticing you.

I also agree that the exact time may be in question, unless something distinctive happened that caused him to look at the clock like; “C’mon it is 4 AM and I have to get some sleep, you can crash on my couch if you want but I’m done partying.”

Legal,
The paper released a picture of an aerial view with Lauren's movements highlighted for that night. For some reason I cannot get the image to expand. Anyway you can post it like the other photos you have?

I expanded the first truck photo you posted and in the logo I see a "M" a space, than a "C"...like the name "McC..." as in McCormick or something similar.

Interesting story on TonyGatto.com about a new witness coming forward who saw an encounter lauren had with an unidentified man at 3:38AM that night..

Legal Pub said...

Afternoon 6-17-11: The end game may be near. Report of a siting at 3:38 at 10th and College. According to an unidentified witness, a drunk Spierer was apparently seen with a man who at one point put Lauren over his shoulder. According to the witness, the man does not look like any of the person's of interest. The witness allegedly told TonyGatto.com that Lauren appeared very intoxicated. Lauren may have even hit her head in the encounter. (Why has this witness not publicly come forward sooner?) In perhaps a completely unrelated manner, there are reports of a bag of man and woman's clothes being found in a dumpster behind Lauren's apartment.

Anonymous said...

Just watched the news conference on the bag of clothes and they are saying that they are "unrelated"

Anonymous said...

So the sighting at 3:38 doesn't add up with Rossenbaum's 4:30 last visual. This makes Rossenbaum's statement virtually worthless.

Now, I'd assume that Rossenbaum isn't perfectly accurate in quoting the time, but it is almost an hour difference.

If the truck is a big concern for the police, and I'm assuming that it is, then the person seen at 3:38 would have to be connected to it, yes? I suspect that the truck was called by the perseon seen at 3:38 for transportation purposes if they are both to be credible pieces of information.

I also am starting to wonder if the confrontation in the apartment complex has any merit to the investigation. At first, i thought it would be rather obvious with the police being so secretive, but now i think that less and less.

Anonymous said...

The witness has no reason to come forward and lie..This seems very credible and throws a total wrench into the whole timeline issue. The only way Rosenbaum could see her leave at 4:30 AM is if she went back there after the incident with the guy at 3:38AM..

What reason did she have for waiting two weeks to come forward? Also, there is a DEFINITE phone call from JR at 4:15am. He says Lauren made the call. What reason does HE have to lie?

Well... possibly a lot of reasons but I can't think of any good ones. Anyone else?

Perhaps the new witness is wrong on her time estimate. She is so definite at 3:38. But if it is actually close to 4:15 -4:40, then the testimony may all fit in.

Her last sighting at 4:15-4:30 AM at 11th & College, coincides with the video surveillance video of the truck circling near 10th and Morton at 4:24 AM. How do we know this new witness who seen Lauren intoxicated at 10th and College did not get her time wrong? She says 3:38 AM as the time but it could be 4:38 AM. Someone said that Rosenbaum’s exact times are in question because who knows exactly what time it is at any given moment in a day…so why is this new witness more reliable than Rosenbaum? Especially with her exact time of 3:38 AM…I agree with the other concerned poster who pointed this out
The fact that someone seen her being thrown over someone’s shoulder is important, and that she may have hit her head, (or did she mean hit in the head?) I think the police knew of this witness early on and told her to keep quiet, as to why we are just hearing about it now. What this new witness is describing is what the FBI calls a blitz attack. This is where the attacker strikes their victim to incapacitate them before the abduction. This stranger abduction seems to be more likely and the truck is of more interest. It appears this suspect seen Lauren walking alone than circled around to hide his truck, probably near the ally way of 10th ave, (maybe that is how her keys actually were discovered there as they fell out of her pocket as she was being thrown into the truck). He waits for Lauren to pass by him and strikes her and throws her over her shoulder (she is only 90lbs) and heads for his hidden truck…they must have video surveillance of this truck at other locations in town…all they have to do is find them.

This is a very good point, with the Paul Bernardo case they got hooked on the wrong description of the vehicle one of his victims was seen standing near before she went missing. For months they were looking for the wrong car, had the color right!

Rumors of the intox, drugs etc just won't go away. If she hit her head and was enebriated, accidental death appears possible. So does abduction by someone on the street.

Something on victimology:
If a close friend says Lauren would never venture to Jay Rosenbaum's apartment on her own, we get an idea why she left with David Rohn to do so. If she was highly independent, that would make her hook-up with Rohn more a result of his and her sharing an objective that night, which some have speculated was the procurement of drugs, since it wasn't initially Kilroy's that she sought to go to on the night in question.

Something I found in relation to the possible drug use that night:
It isn’t a stretch to see that the cocaine or other drug-related rumors make sense in the light of the unusual activity that took place the evening Lauren Spierer went missing. She wasn’t with her girlfriends. She wasn’t with her boyfriends. And she left important possessions – shoes, cell, pocketbook, apartment keys – scattered over the nearby Bloomington area.
Leaving your shoes, cell, purse and home keys along the road and in bars is not the behavior of someone in control. It is, however, the behavior of someone under the influence. Even an abduction wouldn't allow for items to be strewn in so many different locales.

"Leaving your shoes, cell, purse and home keys along the road and in bars is not the behavior of someone in control."

Your main point is valid, but for accuracy's sake, the purse found belonged to a different murder victim.

Video Guy said...

Who the heck is this new witness? If her story is to be believed it would mean that everybody is lying about this, and considering they were probably questioned separately, how would they come up with the same story?

I can’t find any more information about this new scenario except at TonyGatto. The new witness doesn’t tell us where she encounters Lauren when she notices her physical condition…at Kilroys or on the street? Or if the mystery man throwing her over his shoulder is during the same encounter.

A witness also say Lauren was thrown out of Kilroys because she was so messed up, not sure if this is the same witness who seen her being abducted, “If that is what happened”. Suspicious that this story comes out after the police release the photos of the truck.

The police have video of Lauren at two locations after she left Kilroy’s, the video would show how messed up she was and if it corroborates with this new story.

Video Guy said...

Stukyle, I just posted what the article had said, not my words. But apparently her wallet was found with the keys, containing her credit cards…ect. If this is even an accurate report I do not know.

I think a lot of students who have heard this and that are coming forward to the press, so who knows what is actual information or word of mouth anymore.

Legal Pub said...

The witness is supposedly a female bar manager, presumably at Kilroy's. If in fact that is correct, locals know who she is and I suspect she is saying what she truly believed happened. Now, witnesses are not always right, but in these circumstances, they ususally say what they think is right.

Working on more leads on white Silverado 150 with black handles and black guards on the rail. Let's see where they lead.

Video Guy said...

I read that this witness was employed as a “local” bar manager and felt they were implying that she worked at Kilroys, but it was not actually said.
So this manager claims that Lauren was so messed up they had to remove her from the bar, and Rossman was not there…Lets remember Kilroys is now under investigation for serving an underage girl who ends up missing, and Rossman may be underage as well, they have a lot at stake,
She than sees Lauren again at exactly 3:38 AM at 10th and College being thrown over a mans shoulder…how convenient for her to be passing by at that exact moment as the underage girl she had thrown out of the bar earlier, so she remembers her, is spotted even more messed up and with a stranger.

Kilroy’s is under investigation, and she is manager and responsible for any broken laws on her shift = motive to lie

It also proves that the employees of these bars are out and about at 3-4 AM after closing down the business. Maybe she knows the person who owns that truck?

Video Guy said...

Ok…it has been posted that this bar manager, who supposedly seen Lauren really messed up and asked to leave Kilroys, did not work at Kilroys but at another local bar. So did she see this personally or are we dealing with her hearing of this from someone at Kilroys?

The same with the 10th St and College Ave. incident, did she see this or hear about it? What was she doing there at 3:38 AM anyway?

Legal Pub said...

Update 6-20-11: Without tips, the search for Lauren must depend a large part on luck. With tips, the search has expanded to outlieing areas. It is reasonable to believe that a bridge, wooded area and water area off of highway 37 was recently searched near Martinsville. Apparently nothing of significance was recovered. It is also reasonable to assume that the police have followed up leads on what is believed to be a 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 with fancy wheels, black handles and a black protector over the bed rails. Officially, the search proceeds.

Legal Pub said...

Unofficially, it remains difficult to reconcile the bartenders alleged 3:38 sighting of Lauren with a dark skinned man at 11th and college, Rosenbaum's story that he last saw her at 4:30 a.m. and the limited surveillance photos that the police have released.

stukyle said...

We know that a call was made from Rosenbaum to Rohn at 4:15am. According to Rosenbaum it was Lauren using his phone. What reason could he have to lie about that?

The bartender may have her times wrong or she may be making the whole thing up. I can't imagine why she would make the whole thing up unless she were either involved or mentally defective.

They are making a big deal of the white truck. It can't belong to any persons of interest so the police must have at least some reason to suspect a random abduction.

I don't think the police are going to look good at the end of this.

Anonymous said...

Police never look good. They are always at Kilroy's, blocking traffic, when nothing happens and nowhere to be found when something does.

Police have also officially said the owner of the white truck has cooperated fully and was not involved in the Spierer incident. He was picking up a worker at the construction site. They have also said the clothes found by the dumpster at Smallwood are not related to the case. The search near Martinsville did not turn up anything. Assuming the police information is accurate, given no video evidence of Spierer after 2:45, the focus most likely will shift back to what happened at Rosenbaum's appartment complex. Just what was the 4:15 call all about?

Anonymous said...

looks like this all goes back to what exactly happeneed at Rosenbaum's Apartment that night..

Anonymous said...

yup... Rohn, Rosenbaum, and perhaps Wolff should be asked to submit to interrogation/statement.

Legal Pub said...

If they have truly ruled out the truck and other vehicles, then in my opinion this actually tightens the net not broadens it. For those not used to police investigation, the process is one of elimination. You continue to narrow the field of interest until you have a suspect.

It may be much closer than you may imagine. I suspect once a body is found, the net will get real tight.

Legal Pub said...

Keep in mind, that David Rohn was quoted early on to the effect that he was with Lauren early in the evening at a friends. Then he went back to Smallwood and she presumably went to Sports. (Fox 59 video.) If David Rohn mentions the 4:15 call Rosenbaum says Lauren made on his phone to David Rohn, I can't find Rohn's comments about that call reported in the press. Remember David Rohn participated in the search on 6-5-11 and gave a voluntary statement to Fox 59.

Anonymous said...

Initially Spierer accompanied David Rohn from Smallwood en route to Rosenbaum's apartment. Later Lauren and Rossman left to go to Kilroy's Sports Bar.

Anonymous said...

StuKyle:

We can all speculate as to why someone would say Lauren made the 4:15 call. Whether she did make the call would definitely be the subject of a polygraph for both Rohn and Rosenbaum.

What if Lauren was really out of it at that time. Assuming she was not capable of making the call, might one friend call another to see what could be done about reversing an OD?

I suspect that there was no malicious intent. If Lauren did wander off, would there be video of her leaving Rosenbaum's apartment area?

Does anyone know how Wolff felt about his girl friend's partying?

Did she get trashed often? Did that upset him? Did it cause him to break up with her that night?

stukyle said...

"might one friend call another to see what could be done about reversing an OD?"

Of course, but that doesn't explain why Rosenbaum said it was Lauren calling. Since Rohn didn't answer the phone, he could have chosen any number of explanations for why he made that call. He also gave a perfectly reasonable explanation of why Lauren would call Rohn. It just strikes me as a strange lie.

So assuming he is telling the truth, she then overdosed, he threw her over his shoulder, drove off somewhere and dumped her? Well, maybe.

I would really love to know more about the boyfriend. The only problem with it being him is how in the world would he have known where to find her? And if he guessed she was with Rossman or Rosenbaum did he wait in an alley for her to come out or what?

If she left and realized she had no way of getting home or contacting someone, then I guess she could have gone to his place, but then what? He got mad so he killed her and expertly disposed of her body?
Well, maybe.

I would really really love to know if any of these guys have histories of violence.

I think it is likely that some awful predator was driving around looking for a victim and she was the perfect one.

Anonymous said...

If she would have left that apartment there should have been more video sightings of her. I would think that there are more video cameras on the way to Lauren's apartment (or anywhere else she would have went) something had to have went down in those apartments or somewhere close to them.
so her keys were found in the alley with that other murdered lady's purse...what about that lady's boyfriend or husband? Someone would have had to place that coin purse where it was bc that lady was found inside her house stabbed to death. What if lauren came in contact with this man who had just killed his wife or gf?

stukyle said...

for accuracy's sake, her keys were found on a railing near Rosenbaum's apartment.

Also, if there were enough cameras it seems like the police would have a pretty good idea of whether or not all of the guys stayed in their apartments after 3am.

My impression is that the video cameras aren't giving that much information.

Anonymous said...

StuKyle: Folks lie about a lot of things, sometimes even when they are innocent. I keep wondering if they were scared of being prosectuted for giving her drugs. Once you are in deep in lie, its hard to get out, especially if you are scared. Why did Rohn not tell the press of the 4:15 call to his cell from Lauren? Even if he did not answer it...

So you think a predator got her as she walked around the corner from Rosenbaums? If so why did the surveillance in that area not see her? If Rosenbaum is completely innocent and cooperative (as many believe), I wonder if he would be willing to submit to a polygraph?

Anonymous said...

L.P. why do I get the feeling that if you were a special prosecutor leading he investigation that you might have handled things differently.

Clearly you have suggested the truck photos be released sooner rather than later. Same is true about the last known photos of lauren which still have yet to be produced.

I also get the impression that you are not totally convinced that the authorities are done with the white truck... not sure why I get that feeling but I do. It is clear that for some time you must have thought they are in body recovery mode. But that may be like a needle in a haystack...

I also wonder why the Help find Lauren Spierer Facebook page was suddenly taken down..I would imagine it came down because there was a posting of a column written from Tonygatto.com and someone didn't like it..Another problem is that the mainstream media in Indiana seems to have dropped this story off the table..you don't even see stories on it in the Indy Star, etc.

I choose not to address ANON on what I might do diffently. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on what the right way to pursue and investigation.

I will say, that I think the net will get real tight once the body is found. Unfortunately without a tip, the body will only be found by chance.

I choose not to address ANON on what I might do diffently. It really is not important. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on what the right way to pursue an investigation.

I will say, that I think the net will get real tight once the body is found. Unfortunately without a tip, the body will likely only be found by chance. To that extent, the other ANON is correct... it is in stall mode.

Tony's stories may have taken some of the shine off this abduction of a fair haired girl.

BUT NO ONE DESERVES TO BE KILLED OR DISPOSED OF AFTER AN ACCIDENTAL DEATH NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY HAD TO DRINK, ETC!!!!!!

You and your commenters have maintained a consistent source of info with a reasonable interpretation of the same. You have accused no one nor have you criticized the victim. For that many should be greatful.

I read that Rohn was in bed at 4:15 when the call came in from Rosenburn’s apt and he did not answer it... The same article said they did not know if there was a message left for Rohn during that call.
Time to get the phone records and see how long (time) that call actually was.

Do we know where Lauren’s boyfriend Wolff’s apt is located at? Is it within walking distance of Rosenbaum?

If any of these characters dumped Laurens body I would think it would have to be nearby, or else there would be video somewhere, of them driving around town.

It doesn’t make sense for any of these people to not call the paramedics if Lauren OD’ed. All Rosenbaum would have to say is, “She came over all messed up and passed out on my couch, and when I woke up she was dead.” If he had drugs he could have disposed of them before making the call. If this scenario of Lauren ODing at Rosenbaum’s apt should be true, there would have to be something else he was worried about. Like maybe his DNA where it shouldn’t be….just speculating here.

You just have to hope the police have more than we know and are in pursuit of something. It just seems like a dead end right now. I am from New York trying to follow this case in the media and on Legal Pub and Gatto..If you try to follow it on mainstream sources like the Indianapolis Star or other media outlets in Indiana, it seems almost like the story doesn't even exist..

Anonymous said...

If any of these alleged drug stories are true then the drugs had to come from somewhere..I mean if SEVERAL different apt's were visited in rosenbaum's building that night, you ahve to beleive these kids were doing more than playing scrabble at 3AM..I hope the cops interview eveyone

Totally agree. I don't believe it was a simple OD, but I'm not convinced either way that they guys are guilty.

As a parent, I would increase the reward to the maximum amount possible in the hopes that at a certain point, the money will be too attractive to someone who is afraid to come forward. Maybe the Spierer's have done this; I cannot imagine what Mr. and Mrs. Spierer are going through, and my heart breaks for them. I would hope that the owner of the Colts would join in increasing the reward he offered too ... $10,000 to some is significant, but it certainly is not meaningful from the owner of the Colts. Sometimes money talks, and maybe it could flush out someone who knows something that can lead to finding Lauren Spierer.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the above. If they could increase the value to something that glimmered to a few people maybe the case would have a break. I just cannot imagine what the Spierers are going through. This all has to be heart wrenching to be a part of. I wish that they could find her safe and sound, but the more the days go on with nothing, the more faith I am even continuing to lose. FIND LAUREN!!!!

Noone can tell me that when the altercation was going on with Rossman, these guys weren't on the phone with Wolff telling him what was going on. Have the police interviewed the kids who hit Rossman?

Anonymous said...

Every kid whose name was even brought up has shutdown there Facebook and Twitter pages and stopped posting..They haven't even posted anything in support of helping find this girl..It's all very strange

Anonymous said...

Zachary Oates supposedly hit Rossman. All of the Smallwood people supposedly cooperated with police. Rossman appears off the hook. He was put to bed by Mike Beth, his roommate. Beth confirms Lauren went to Rosenbaum's. Rosenbaum admits that she came to his place after leaving Beth. But Rosenbaum then says she called Rohn at 4:15 and saw her leave and round the corner at 4:30.

Assuming timeline is accurate, where was she headed? To another friends or to home? Did she get distracted along the way?

Letting a girl walk around on the street by herself is not a crime. J.R. had nothing to ‘cover up’ if she left his apartment on her own. Since JR claims to be the last to see her, doesn't the focus of scrutiny start with him?

Anonymous said...

Lauren may have been calling Rohn to meet her half way to walk her back or to let her into smallwood since she lost her keys...

Anonymous said...

Interesting that her keys, however, were apparently lost near Rosenbaum's apartment!

Anonymous said...

Rosenbaum has the best lawyer so he must be completely innocent!

Anonymous said...

I would say the scrutiny definetely starts with Rosenbaum, but then it always does with the last person to see someone

Wolff has over a thousand friends on Facebook and Zach Oates, the guy whose supposedly hit Rossman and is Wolff's friends, isn't even his friend on Facebook? Weird

Find Lauren website is still open.

People interested in searching should gather at McNutt.

I found this at the IDS site in the comments:
“There aren't any cameras at the 5 North Townhomes complex or whatever the complex is called where Rossman, Beth, and Rosenbaum live. There are only 6 total units there, and when we drove by last night, 4 of the 6 look empty. One thing's for certain, though. Folks are trying to make a point...the street level windows in those units were pretty much plastered with Lauren's flyers.”

What if one of these guys had given her a date rape drug to take advantage of her and the mix of what she had ingested earlier, and her heart condition, killed her?
Still…there must be video/witnesses of them driving around town to dispose of her body if they are responsible.

People do not seem to believe Rossman’s story about not remembering anything…It appears that allegedly he was drinking heavily and mixing a cocktail of other drugs, I can see him not remembering anything as I myself when younger woke up wondering how I got home and where my car was at…and that was just from to much alcohol.

I also read that Rosenbaum has a top notched defense attorney, not that he shouldn’t lawyer up before talking to the police, especially because of the high profile of this case…but why such an expensive and highly rated attorney?

The website started on Facebook called "Help find Lauren Spierer" has been taken down..I beleive it was started by her roommate but is now off Facebook..

Can't tell much by Facebook. You can unfriend with a simple click. Furthermore, there is no proof the hit of Rossman had anything to do with Lauren's disappearance over 2 hours later other than being one more event that happened that early morning and possibly an indication that Wolfe may have been upset that someone was being "aggressive" with his girlfriend.

I just don't see any of these kids as the murdering type. No gangsters here no matter how hard you look.

Follow the link LP has at the beginning of this story to the “Indiana Daily Student”. They have an updated story every day, sometimes several. What is more important are the comments below the story as students who apparently know the major players and local rumors are posting there.

I prefer L.P. sorting of the data. Most of the comments on other sites contain so much rank speculation that they are worthless.

I don’t see them as murderers either, or is it logical to just dump a body of someone who OD’ed at ones apt, especially when they can be traced back to that apt…if they are responsible it was an accident, but there had to be something more to it for them to take such life changing risks.

What about Wolff, the boyfriend? Laurens roommate said she was suppose to meet up with him later that night/morning. They say he tried to call/text her phone after he woke up on Friday. If it had been my girl I be trying to track her down before I went to sleep, especially if she was suppose to meet up with me. He also has a lawyer and left town. Maybe he is just a laid back guy…but he appears to be unconcerned.

As for the story about the truck, what friend was he picking up from a construction site at 4:30 in the morning? I have worked construction when younger and we don’t work at night! One may have to work late, just after dark, or start early, just before sunrise….but work through the night…very, very rare, and only under an emergency situation.

picking up another worker... maybe that worker was staying in the hotel or apartment in that area.

Video Guy said...

I thought I read the truck was picking up a worker “from a construction site”…I could be wrong or misread, or it was reported wrong.

Legal Pub said...

Video Guy: I have been told that the official police statement is as follows: "The owner of the truck was driving in that location, an area with a lot of construction, to pick up a worker."

No other clarification has been offered. My prediction remains, that things will happen fast after they locate the body.

Anonymous said...

I don't know if any drugs were involved, but even if she did overdose, she didn't deserve these idiots dumping her body, if that is what happened. Her body may never be found...

True friends don't let someone they care for go to a bar alone, friends don't let them walk home at 4am ALONE! These so called friends obviously don't know what it means to be a true friend.

IDK…lots of accusations in the comments at other sites. All I know is if any of these kids had something to do with it they will be acting out of character, guilt, stress, and paranoia will rule their lives. But the only people who will notice this are their friends and families away from the state where the POI are now located.
Being falsely accused or suspected will bring a stress all its own…

Legal… “IF” they find a body!

Update 6-21-11: Try not to be too critical of law enforcement. It is not just the Bloomington police department. The U.S. Marshall's office, the FBI and the Indiana State police are all involved to some extent. By way of clarification, the official explanation of the white truck is as follows: "The owner of the truck was driving in that location, an area with a lot of construction, to pick up a worker."
The driver has been interrogated and law enforcement is confident that the pickup was not involved in the disappearance of Lauren Spierer. Other surveillance footage in other parts of Bloomington may be helpful to track vehicle movement; however there appears to be no video surveillance at 5 North Townhomes complex where Lauren Spierer apparently last visited before her disappearance.

Thanks for the clarification L.P. You updated to the present and remind not to be too judgmental.

Now let's find Lauren.

Anonymous said...

Ditto.

To show you how lame some comments on other sites are I give you this. Some poster suggested the killer of Holder was also involved in Lauren's disappearance. They suggest that the killer is still at large. Well, Bruce Edward Foster turned himself in and has been charged with the murder of Angela Holder. He has nothing to do with Lauren.

Legal Pub said...

ANon: To be accurate, I don't think Foster turned himself in until June 10, 2011. As I recall Lauren went missing on the morning of June 3, 2011. So while it is possible Foster was involved in Lauren's disappearance, I doubt it.
