More Bright Idea Parenting? Update 2-24-12

Billy Joe Madden may have thought that he had a great idea as to how to avoid a DWI. But Louisiana State Police still arrested Madden. Madden's pickup was stopped on Interstate 12 when it was being operated unsafely. According to police, they were surprised to find that his 8-year-old son was at the wheel while the 28-year-old father was apparently in the passenger's seat in an intoxicated state. Nola.com and Police. According to the Associated Press:

Troopers say the man's 4-year-old daughter was in the back seat when the truck was stopped Saturday morning in Livingston Parish. The child's driving was so erratic that it alarmed motorists, who called authorities. (What do you expect from an eight year old?)

According to WVUE Fox 8, The Mississippi man and the two kids were driving from Hattiesburg, Miss. to Dallas, Texas. Madden has been charged with two counts of child desertion, two counts of no child restraint and parent allowing a minor to drive.

Whats the "Deal" down in Arizona? In another bizarre case, 10 year-old Ame Deal was found dead in a trunk outside an Arizona home. Her family initially claimed the child died while playing hide-and-seek. But investigators apparently think Ame Deal suffocated because she was intentionally locked in a box as punishment for taking a Popsicle without permission. Phoenix police question whether Deal's grandmother, aunt and two cousins regularly subjected the child to horrific treatment. "This child died at the hands of those who were supposed to love and care for her. ... This case has turned the stomachs of some of our most seasoned detectives," said Phoenix Police spokesman Sergeant Trent Crump. city's website.Deal's cousin Samantha Allen, 23, and her husband, John Allen, 23, allegedly admitted to putting the child in the trunk. Prosecutors have filed charges for first degree murder. AZFamily

Update 8-5-11: Speaking of education. Jennifer Lynch asked that we share her article on Legal Education. LINK. While we don't like to provide free ads, this article may interest some of our readers.

Update 8-15-11: What is an article about poor parenting without an example of some good principles? At a celebrity, 11-year-old Nick Smith was given the chance to sink the puck from center ice into a three-and-a-half-inch cutout and win the $50,000 prize. But when Nick's name was called, the boy's identical twin brother, Nate, successfully shot the puck. Instead of claiming the prize money, their father, Pat Smith, called back the next day and said, 'you know it was really Nate that made the shot and we thought honesty was the best policy and we want to set a good example for our kids." "Early Show."It is now up to the insurance company to decide if the kids will get the money.

Update 9-13-11: Talk about "using the kids." 5-year-old Levada (lu-VAY'-duh) Brown and 4-year-old Yokela (yoh-KAY'-luh) Smith were murdered on Aug. 31 in the family apartment in East St. Louis. Their mother, 25-year-old Yokeia (yoh-KEE'-uh) Smith, is charged with first-degree murder charges. Apparently, the children's father listened by phone from a Wisconsin federal prison where he's serving time for armed robbery as Yokeia ended the childrens' lives with her recently purchased shotgun.

Update 2-24-12: A nine year- old boy is in court accused of accidentally shooting a 3d grade classmate. Bail was set at $50,000 while a judge decides if he has the capacity to be tried for the crime. "I just want everyone to know that my kid made a mistake. It was a terrible mistake," the boy's father, Jason Cochran, said. The uncle, Patrick Cochran, is the boy's legal guardian. Who needs to step up and take responsibility for the young boy bringing in a loaded .45-caliber handgun that he got from his mother's house? The gun was in his backpack and accidentally discharged critically injuring Amina Kocer-Bowman.

Kocer-Bowman remained in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after undergoing surgery. She was sedated and on a ventilator. The bullet hit the girl in the abdomen and arm, according to police. The 9 year-old boy is charged with unlawful possession of a gun, bringing a dangerous weapon to school and third-degree assault charges. Authorities believe he got the weapon during a visitation with his mother. But the boy allegedly told a classmate five days before the shooting that he was going to bring his "dad's gun" to school.

Jamie Lee Chaffin is listed as the boy's mother. In 2005, she pleaded guilty to a drug paraphernalia charge. She also was convicted of marijuana deliver and forgery.

Some states have firearm child access prevention laws many of which include criminal penalties for adults who allow children to get their hands on guns. However, Washington apparently does not have such a law.

In 2000, 6-year-old Kayla Rolland, a Michigan first-grader, was fatally shot by a 6-year-old classmate. Last year, a 6-year-old kindergartner at a Houston elementary school accidentally fired a gun as he was showing it off. Neither were charged criminally.

I just read about the Ame Deal case, it appears that this child has been abused for sometime. A neighbor seen the adults in the home making this child walk up and down the street some 18 time in 103 degree heat in her bare feet…but he said nothing and now she is dead. And she had been locked in that container before…who would do such a thing?

And now I hear Casey Anthony is about to receive $500,000 for killing her child…WTF! Who would pay her for an interview when every other word out of her mouth is a lie?
