Retired players have felt unrepresented in the issue of how to divide more than $9 billion in NFL revenue. The retired players want more of the profits being dedicated to medical insurance and better pensions for former players. There is a strong argument that the players' decision to decertify their union makes it an antitrust violation for the owners and current players to negotiate for retired players.
If Judge Nelson rejects the motion for an injunction stopping the mediation, then the retired players seek treble damages as punishment.
The preseason opener between the Bears and Rams is only a month away. Will an agreement be in place before the season is jeopardized? Who can forget the strike season in the 80's? The players were different, but the uniforms were the same. If it meant ticket prices being cut in half, would it be worth it to see Nancy Peterson run the ball instead of Adrian Peterson? Perhaps it is worth finding out. NFL Running out of time?
Kelly Rothwell
Apparently football players are not the only "ex" that knows how to terminate any further discussion. Florida Police cadet Kelly Rothwell disappeared in March of 2011. She apparently had an argument with her boyfriend which resulted in a breakup. Kelly apparently disappeared on the day she broke up with her boyfriend. David Perry is a suspect in her disappearance. Shortly after she disappeared, her ex boyfriend returned to New York. Perry allegedly has declined detectives invitation to submit to an interogation. LINK. As always, any suspect is to be presumed innocent unless otherwise proven in a court of law.

Greed in professional sports is simply out of control
Like everything else in this world, it is all about money and a sense of entitlement.

Thanks Legal Pub for publicizing the Kelly Rothwell disappearance.

Gabriel James Gamez, 22, of San Antonio, is charged with murder and assault of high school football players Darrell Turner, 18who was killed and his teammate, Thomas Woodson, 15, who was shot in the leg and released.
The players were going back to their hotel and the suspect going back to his hotel. Words were exchanged and then shots were fired. The players were students at Gateway High in Monroeville, Pa., where Turner was a rising senior.
Not all NFL players receive the big multi million-dollar contracts, actually it is a small percentage. I think the starting pay for most is around $80, 000. If one of these lower paid players receives a career ending injury that may produce medical expenses for years after he is cut for the same injury, he is on his own.
I believe this is what they are fighting for, better care for their lower paid teammates.
And though the big contracts are what we hear about most, the over all pay of all the players are nothing compared to the ridicules profits the owners make…some sort of profit sharing for all would be fair and would help many of the injured.
Just because they use to be in the NFL and college educated is no guarantee of steady employment after, especially with an injury that can be considered pre-existing to a future employers insurance.
This has been a problem for a long time as in the 80’s I seen a documentary about an up and coming Bears player who suffered a career ending knee injury. (I don’t recall his name at this time) This injury crippled him, he could not walk without assistance and was in constant pain. I’m pretty sure he ended up living with his wife’s family with their two children as his wife worked to try to pay for continued medical care. I believe at first his teammates were trying to help financially but as time went on he was to be forgotten. He said there were many like him out there.
The Rothwell story is blatantly suspicious…I expect they will find her body somewhere between FL. and NY
There is always the scenario that he decided to leave town and get away for awhile because of the breakup and she fell upon foul play after leaving the restaurant. But I think he would be anxious to clear his name in such a scenario.
Rothwell tragedy can't be allowed to happen. Justice must be served.
I certainly hope he does not escape justice
When greed is involved, there is no such thing as innocence.
