Is Anthony Sowell Without A Soul?

When will we ever learn? Tolerating such conduct in society must become a memory of the past. If this story doesn't warrant mandatory chemical castration for convicted rapists, than perhaps nothing will.* Investigators have discovered that the Cleveland, Ohio home of a "convicted sex offender," Anthony Sowell, has been the resting place of at least 10 bodies. (Apparently Sowell had been previously charged with rape but convicted of attempted rape.) Anthony Sowell, may be responsible for 11 deaths. Cleveland Police Chief Michael McGrath hopes there are no bodies but they will continue to search in order to make sure. Sowell, 50, is charged with five counts of aggravated murder. He is also charged with rape, felonious assault and kidnapping.

Sowell was arrested Saturday after police discovered the decomposing bodies of five females inside his home and another woman's body outside the house. Four more bodies were discovered Tuesday buried in the yard. A skull wrapped in a bag was also found in a bucket in the basement. The victims have yet to be identified. Of the first six bodies discovered, five are believed to have been strangled. Sowell was convicted for a 1989 rape and was imprisoned from 1990 to 2005. Since his release from prison, Sowell apparently has lived at the home where the bodies were found. Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office checked on Sowell regularly. They last checked on him September 22 to confirm his address. But about a month ago, a woman accused Sowell of rape and assault. The New York Times published a neighbors complaint that police were not proactive enough. Specifically, the Times reported that Fawcett Bess, 57, the owner of Bess Chicken and Pizza, said that about two weeks ago, he found Anthony Sowell in the bushes naked and standing over a battered, naked woman. Bess called 911, and an ambulance soon took the woman away. Bess was disappointed that the police did not show up until two hours later. Bess claims the police never interviewed him. Perhaps it was this woman's complaints that triggered the issuing of warrants which led to the grizzly discovery. New York Times Link.

Sowell apparently only works as a "scrapper." He finds scrap metal and takes it to junk yards to sell. If convicted, it sounds like Sowell will be looking for future employment behind bars.

Sowell must be considered innocent unless otherwise proven in a court of law.
* Even France is considering mandatory chemical castration for convicted rapists.
*Poland is also considering adopting such laws for certain sex offenders. LINK.

Interesting debate on madatory treatment for sex offenders. Kind of throws rehab ideas out the window.

Mandatory castration is one thing, optional in exchange for reduced time may be another. Consider the following story:

A doctor said, 'Joe, the good news is I can cure your headaches. The bad news is that it will require castration. You have a rare condition, which causes your testicles to press on your spine and the pressure creates a horrible headache. The only way to relieve the pressure is to remove the testicles.'

Joe was shocked and depressed. He wondered if he had anything to live for. He had no choice but to go under the surgery. When he left the hospital, he was without a headache for the first time in 20 years. But he felt incomplete. As he walked down the street, he felt like a new suit would be a way to start his new life.

He entered a men's clothing store and told the salesman, 'I'd like a new suit.'

The elderly tailor eyed him briefly and said, 'Let's see... size 44 long.'

Joe laughed, 'That's right, how did you know?'

'Been in the business 60 years!' the tailor said.

Joe tried on the suit it fit perfectly.

As Joe admired himself in the mirror, the salesman asked, 'How about a new shirt?'

Joe thought for a moment and then said, 'Sure.'

The salesman eyed Joe and said, 'Let's see, 34 sleeves and 16-1/2 neck.'

Joe was surprised, 'That's right, how did you know?'

'Been in the business 60 years.'

Joe tried on the shirt and it fit perfectly.

Joe walked comfortably around the shop and the salesman asked, 'How about some new underwear?'

Joe thought for a moment and said, 'Sure.'

The salesman said, 'Let's see... size 36.

Joe laughed, 'Ah ha! I got you! I've worn a size 34 since I was 18 years old.'

The salesman shook his head, 'You can't wear a size 34. A size 34 would press your testicles up against the base of your spine and give you one hell of a headache.

Nah, most castration occurs in the U.S. because of a poor vocabulary. For example, Jim visits his doctor and tells him, "Doc, I want to be castrated. After all these years I have decided it's time." The doctor lets him know that once the procedure is done, it cannot be reversed. Jim is sure he wants it done and goes and has the surgery. After the procedure he is walking really funny. He sees another man walking the same way. He says to the man, "You must have gotten the same surgery as me." The man returns, "Yeah, after all of these years I finally decided to be circumcised." Jim exclaims, "Damn, that was the word!!"

English is fundamental.

Chemical castration hasn't been proven to completely kill off sex drive in all offenders, and makes DNA comparison more difficult for police in the long run because of lack of mature leavings.
So if he rapes again, you're actually helping him.

Well, than chop the testicles off!

Castration by orchiectomy sounds much more professional.

London, Dec 28 (ANI): As a part of a voluntary scheme, sex offenders in Britain have been given drugs that reduce sex drive. Early results suggest that it makes it difficult for them to re-offend, according to the Ministry of Justice.

11 men have put themselves forward for the pioneering project, which has been dubbed chemical castration.

Those receiving the treatment include prison inmates and offenders who have been released from custody and are living in the community. Volunteers are being given Prozac, which lowers libido, or other categories of drugs known as anti-androgens.

The current project is being overseen by Professor Don Grubin, a forensic psychiatrist at Newcastle University’’s Institute of Neuroscience.

Experts have warned that it could prove impractical to impose the medication on sex offenders in a compulsory programme.

Professor David Wilson, a criminologist from Birmingham City University, warned that chemical castration may not be regarded as the solution to all types of sex offending.

He wants proof that it reduces the number of children who are attacked by predatory paedophiles.

“Chemical castration is not a cure-all and it will not simply magic the problem of paedophiles away. It can deal with the physical part of the libido but not the psychological phenomenon. It is only part of the arsenal that should be used against these predatory offenders."

Chemical castration sounds like one way to inhibit inappropriate sexual desire.....if the chemicals are taken as directed.

What can be done about the rage towards women that the rape is really about....perhaps a good rehab program?

What about this dudes desire to strangle women? Hmmm.... I know.... let's rehab him with a lethal injection of those chemicals.

Even though I normally wouldn't advocate the death penalty, this is just the kind of guy the death penalty was created for.

Kat...I was thinking the same thing.

The chemical castration wont curb his appetite to kill.

He needs to be put to death ASAP!!!

And the police need to be reprimanded!!

Many theorize that the sex drive encourages the contact and the killing is done to hide the crime.

Further testosterone deprivation is thought to reduce the aggressive violent tendencies as well.

Castration didnt stop my dogs aggression.....so I cant imagine it being any different for a man.

LOL!!!

Secrets: Castration won't cure 100% of the overly aggressive maniacs. It will; however, reduce aggression in the vast majority. And that, no matter what type of beast we are dealing with, is a good start.
