Margaret Jones A.K.A. Maragaret Seltzer Lied, As Did Lauren Cleri And Well Over 50% Of All Women? ~ by JIll

Women lie. Some are good at it. Some ar not. Cyndi Hoffman, the sister of author Margaret B. Jones has tattled on her. Margaret Jones, who claimed that she was a foster child in South L.A., really grew up with her family in Sherman Oaks. Ironically, the March 4, 2008 memoir of "Margaret B. Jones" received good reviews. Perhaps, Cyndi was a bit jeolous of her sister's success and went to the press to set things right. "Love and Consequences," a critically acclaimed autobiography about growing up among gangbangers was made up. Margaret Jones is really Margaret Seltzer. She is not a half-white, half-Native American who grew up in a foster home. She is a white woman who was raised with her biological family in Sherman Oaks. She graduated from Campbell Hall, an exclusive private school in the San Fernando Valley.

Seltzer's admission that she is a fake was provided to the New York Times, which last week published a profile of Seltzer using her pseudonym. Seltzer's lie was unmasked when her sister Cyndi Hoffman, 47, notified the memoir's publisher, Riverhead Books. (Congratulations Cyndi on your 10 minutes of fame for turning in your sister! Bet your future family holidays are fun...)

But according to a New York Post article, no one should be surprised about this lie as females lie "more cleverly and successfully than men" about everything from infidelity, cosmetic surgery, barhopping and shopping binges. "Women lie as a survival technique, but also to get what they want," said Susan Shapiro Barash, author of "Little White Lies, Deep Dark Secrets: The Truth About Why Women Lie."

Lauren Cleri, 26, admitted on a Fox T.V. show that she had cheated on her NYPD cop husband. However, she failed a polygraph, and lost $200,000, by answering "yes" when asked if she believed she was a good person.

Barash interviewed 500 women and concluded:

* 75 percent lie about how much money they spend.

* 50 percent harbor "mixed feelings about mothering."

* More than 60 percent cheated on their husbands.
*More than 80 percent believe in "beneficial lying."

So, honey, if you are reading this, when I told you that I loved you on Valentines Day, don't assume it was true because you forgot to hook me up a lie detector test.

Good job Jill. But I would think the figures on fibbing would be higher.

When I say I love you, I mean, you give me finacial security and are a good father so I tolerate your requests in the bed room.I may even love you as a brother, but that is were it stops...

Can't they just re release the book as fiction?

She was trying to share experiences of others but wrote it as if it were her own. I don't see any real intentional harm here...

Did not New York's own Lorenzo Carcaterra fake his memoir, Sleepers? I questioned his memoir of growing up in the cruel and abusive New York juvenile justice system. It did not appear accurate and in fact appeared to be fabricated. Similarly, didn't Forrest Carter's fake an account of of growing up a Native American?

Is it all just good fiction or is it an intent to harm? I think it is just an attempt to entertain the masses and create real life heros. Unfortunately, whenever such heros rise from the ashes, they are shot down back into the fabricated turmoil.

Shame on you all. Lieing (other than on a bed) is just plain wrong.

Jill,
I don't believe it, women are not better at fibbing. In fact, I have never, ever fibbed. . . Ever.

Anonymous,
I just think it's important that if a book is fiction it not be represented as non-fiction. I don't understand why she didn't try to get it published as a novel. It seems like this situation is very similar to what happened the Frye book that Oprah went nuts over last year. Perhaps it's just easier to get a publisher for non-fiction? I dunno.

By the way, wouldn't you want to see this family over Easter lunch this year . . . ya think the two sisters will kiss and make up ...

Yup, still a non fiction gold mine. And her story will probably be turned into a movie... the perpetuation of a fraud...

Well, who would be dumb enough to cheat on their husband and tell him?

Its disappointing that the book was a fake. I needed a queen to worship this week.

Does this woman exist? "A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies." (The Hebrew word chayil, translated here "noble," or "virtuous" (KJV), means a wife of valor — a strong, capable woman with strong convictions.)

"Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value."

Such a woman is reliable, dependable and trust worthy. But does she exist?

In sum, J.J. no. Statistically, at least, she no longer exists or is so rare that everyone would want her.

The N.Y. Post article made me give up any dream of marriage. I get plenty of booty from different women, but deep inside i longed for more. This article and Jill's story opened my eyes pretty quickly. I no longer think the risk of marriage is worth it.

Staying single/dating/getting action as I see fit is the smarter cours of action. When I lived with my girlfriend, the frequency of action diminished to a couple of times a month. That is no way for a man to live.

I am done looking for an honest right woman. In my view she does not exist and Miss or Ms. right now is a better option every time.

Single mom's focus on their children more than they do their-self, their happiness, or their relationship with a man! End of story. Men will always be second best with any single mom. And this is backwards. It sends a bad message to kids when they are the priority. It also makes it a lot more difficult for a man to be with her, since he's like at the bottom of her list of priorities.

Women can rationalize lieing to benefit their kid. Its simply fact.

Do women lie? Sure. Do men lie? Sure. In reading this report, these statistice\s, I don't recognize any of the women I know.

How would it read if you substituted an ethnic, religous, or racial minoriy for 'women'?

This just paints with too broad of a misogynistic brush.

I would not call Cyndi a tattle tailer, just an exporter of the truth!

Anonymous said...

Cyndi Hoffman, the exporter of truth is getting almost as much publicity as her sister. How long before sister Cyndi is on the talk show circuit?

Here is the real difference between men and women:

A woman didn't come home one night. The next morning she told her husband that she had slept over at a friend's house. The man called his wife's 10 best friends. None of them knew anything about it.
vs.

A man didn't come home one night. The next morning he told his wife that he had slept over at a friend's house. The woman called her husband's 10 best friends, eight of which confirmed that he had slept over, and two said that he was still there.
