Chilling Warning About the Possible Danger From Old Tires ~by Doc

Warning! Check the age of your tires. Old tires may be hazardous to your health. When you buy a tire, ask the retailer for the date of manufacture. The tire is coded so as to reveal it's date of manufacture. Several accidents may have occurred because of the tread separating on old tires. While you may think your tires are new, the actual date of manufacture may be shocking! The British consumer is entitled to strict disclosure of the manufacture date. Not so here in the U.S.

This is a real important story, but it can't match Tiger Woods drama!

Tires! Tired old tires sold as new are dangerous. But must we rely on the store to tell us the manufacture date?

Can manufacturing dating codes save lives?

Look for the tire identification number branded in the sidewall of the tire. This ID number starts with the letters DOT followed by a combination of 10 to 12 letters and numbers. If you see DOT plus just a few letters or numbers, the full ID number is on the other side of the tire.

Determine whether the last part of the ID number consists of three or four digits. If you see just three numbers, the tire was manufactured before the year 2000. This is a red flag!

If you are wearing the tire because you have no clothes, why should it matter?

It may matter if you are Chinese and pulling a cart...

If I was without clothes, I would need a wider tire...

how about the spare tire most men carry around their mid section. I hear that is dangerous too.
