3-24-08 Update Plus: Master mind, Michael Dearrell Chastang was convicted by a jury as a participant in the so-called "Barbie Bandits" bank robbery. Chastang and three other defendants were sentenced March 19 for the February 2007 heist. Chastang was apparently behind the robbery. He apparently put Ashley Miller and Heather Johnston in touch with the bank teller who police claim was in on the crime. Miller testified Thursday during Chastang's trial that stealing money from a bank was the "worst decision I ever made." Miller and Chastang were supposedly romantically involved. Johnston, Miller and the teller, Benny Herman Allen III, has all previously pleaded guilty to theft charges and testified against Chastang at his trial.
Ashley Nicole Miller, 19, received a two-year prison sentence and eight years probation. She received credit for three months already served. Miller pleaded guilty to theft by taking and possession of Ecstasy with intent to distribute.
Judge Staley gave Heather Johnston, 20, 10 years' probation, community service, an order to repay the bank and a $2,000 fine.
She deserves prison time, not a movie.

ReplyDeleteIn my view of their post plea conduct, Ashley is probably sorry, Heather is probably not. Someone said that Heather is all about the flash and the cash. I think she is looking to cash in by selling her story. She probably will end up making some serious bucks on this crime which is not right on so many different levels...

After they were caught, Miller did not look so great, but Heather's marketability skyrocketed as she was even hotter in person.Before pleading guilty, Johnston worked as a telemarketer. Miller worked as a babysitter. Neither one of them got much from the banking business.

ReplyDeleteAshley Nicole Miller, 19, who is free on a $15,000 bond, is charged with felony theft by taking, marijuana possession and ecstasy trafficking in connection with a bank robbery.
Ms. Miller was expected to testify that Michael Darrell Chastang, 27, of Decatur, "had sold drugs on prior occasions." Doing so and admitting to bank theft would have meant that prosecutors would drop a drug trafficking charge against Miller.
Ms. Miller and 19-year-old Heather Johnston - the other of the so-called "Barbie Bandits" were seen wearing sunglasses and laughing as they appeared to steal nearly $11,000 from a Bank of America branch in Acworth on Feb. 27. But what first looked like a bank robbery turned out to be a theft allegedly involving bank teller Benny Herman Allen III, 22, of Cartersville, authorities said.
The young women were arrested in Douglas County. Police found 110 Ecstasy pills when Chastang, Ms. Miller and Ms. Johnston were arrested during the traffic stop.
Instead of labeling Chastang a drug dealer, Ms. Miller said in court that she lied to police about who owned the drugs. She had been romantically involved with Chastang when they were arrested. She initially told police she was a drug dealer, claiming that the pills were hers and that Chastang was holding them for her.
Cobb Superior Court Judge Mary Staley admonished the teenager about being truthful.
Ms. Miller's attorney, Timothy Williams, later asked that Ms. Miller's plea be withdrawn.
Allen, who police allege handed the girls $10,966 in cash and was apparently in on the job and has been arrested.
Allen is free on a $25,000 bond. He faces felony theft charges. Chastang, a convicted felon, remains in the Cobb Jail. He is charged with felony theft, marijuana possession, ecstasy trafficking and giving a false name and date of birth.
Ms. Johnston pleaded guilty on Aug. 22 to theft by taking, a felony, and misdemeanor marijuana possession. Heather entered the pleas because she wanted to take responsibility for what she did. Judge Staley has deferred sentencing until the case against the others is resolved.
Heather is the hot one. She is on house arrest with an ankle bracelet.
